Supergroup Nevermen Shares ‘Hate On’, Another Track Off Their Upcoming Album

Supergroups are all the rage now, and there is a new one featuring Faith No More’s Mike Patton, TV on the Radio’s Tunde Adebimpe and rapper Doseone. They called themselves Nevermen and will drop their self-titled album in a week. Meanwhile, they have shared on YouTube another track, ‘Hate On’, which is actually the third song they let us hear, after ‘Tough Towns’ and ‘Mister Mistake’… For some reasons, this has completely escaped me, and it is a shame because I love TV on the Radio.

‘Hate On’ has a very powerful intro of echoing munk-chorus-like voices and the track basically just keeps on evolving in surprising directions with electronic and synthetic layers, Arabic beats and cavernous vocals. It’s very atmospheric and layered with a infinity of monastery voices, chanted incantations of an unknown religion. The build-up is intense and the track becomes very busy like a hive at the peak of its activity with Adebimpe’s characteristic voice piercing the fog.

‘Tough Towns’ is as busy as this new track, although beginning as a more ethereal soundscape with desolated sax and Doseone’s creepy vocals or Adepimpe’s soulful voice, alternating with impressive uplifting choir-like parts marching like an army of noises and beats. ‘Mister Mistake’ is much more upbeat, with a kaleidoscopic sound a layered voices, beats and synth but it sounds almost cute in comparison with the two previous ones.

‘Nevermen’ will be released on January 29th, and here is the full trackless of the album:

Dark Ear
Treat Em Right
Wrong Animal Right Trap
Tough Towns
Hate On
Mister Mistake
At Your Service
Non Babylon
Fame II: The Reckoning

The trio had announced a tour, which has been cancelled due to illness, but I am sure it will be rescheduled soon. Meanwhile, you can listen to the 3 tracks below.
