Sneak Peaks: New Album Releases 1-18-19 – 1-24-19

WE’RE BACK! AFter a month break from sneak peaking new releases, here is enough to reboot the concept. Sneak Peaks is my longest running column, it will be ten years old this year.

Aesop Rock and Tobacco – Malibu Ken

Alice Merton – Mint

Ariana Grande – 7 rings – If I was her I’d have kept releasing singles and hoping something else lands.

Christina Perri – Songs for Carmella: Lullabies & Sing-a-Longs – Part of me finds it touching, most of me couldn’t stand the single.

Cody Johnson – Ain’t Nothin’ To It

Deerhunter – Why Hasn’t Everything Already Disappeared? – Good question but whatever the answer the last single was killer.

Future – The WIZRD – I’m sky high – Last year’s mixtape with Juice WRLD was ace, both singles off this release are great, I haven’t seen the Apple Music promotional movie yet but it is on my to do list, and I await this album, well, – MOST ANTICIPATED OF THE WEEK

Guster – Look Alive – Did you know, and not many people know this, Guster are big in Chicago

James Blake –  Assume Form – The electronic, musical, sort of Brooklyn at the turn of the decade, experimental yet mainstream guy is back.

Joe Jackson – Fool – My ex likes him but her taste in music is about as good as her taste in men.

Juliana Hatfield – Weird

Lost Under Heaven  – Love Hates What You Become

Maggie Rogers – Heard It In A Past Life – Yeah, wasn’t crazy about her opening for Mumford And Son.

Mike Posner – A Real Good Kid – The new single is his best since “Pill In Ibiza”

Papa Roach –  Who Do You Trust?

Pedro The Lion Phoenix

Rich The Kid – The World is Yours 2 – Great trap start from the South, unbeatable on record (but sucks life… like a lot of Southern rap: Gucci and Future included) and listening to TWIY1, I have zero idea how it missed my best of 2018…

Sharon Van Etten – Remind Me Tomorrow – So far the singles have been among her best and “Comeback Kid” is just about flawless.

Steve Gunn  – The Unseen In Between

Steve Mason – About The Light

Switchfoot Native Tongue – Christian Contemporary rock… need I say more? – MUST TO AVOID

Toro y Moi  – Outer Peace

Whitehorse The Northern South Vol. 2
