Every year at this time, actually usually a month earlier than this, I make my plans for new Year’s Eve, and in the past six years, seven including this one, I have only missed one: I had tickets for Govt Mule but fell sick. Otherwise, from Mariah Carey to Coldplay, Skrillex to Chuck Berry, Jay Z to Billy Joel, there I have been every single year. I’ve been reviewing some concert or the other as the ball drops.
My needs are small: it must be a seated venue and I don’t want to spend tooooo much, like $100 tops.
So I looked at Huey Lewis And The News opening for Jimmy Buffett at Barclay’s Center but sat pat hoping for something really big I wasn’t aware of. But to no avail. Icouldn’t find it anywhere. It was between the Beacon and MSG anyway, and I am sick of Southern Rock and I am tired of Elton John.
I am not much of a Jimmy Buffett fan at the best of times and really those parrotheads are beyond the pale, and the last time I saw him I walked out after half an hour. But I am mellower in my dotage, and I have never really given him the benefit of the doubt. Plus, for want of anything better, right?
So there you go: Jimmy Buffett for 2016.
I can’t wait to hear the adds
