Maybe 20 years ago I came up with the concept of aggregating Broadway Theatrical reviews and putting them on one website. It was a good idea and if I had done it we would have soon had it stolen by Playbill (who did it eventually, but not the way we would have). I didn’t have the money for it and time after time when up to the hard dollars and cents, money caught up with us.
But I had an idea.
I do a column every week with upcoming albums (Sneak Peaks) and last week I discovered that James Taylor had a new album about to released, so I googled it and discovered he had already released three songs off it. I had no idea and I am looking hard. I use Brooklynvegan, Billboard, Metacritic, and Album Of The Year for my primary research and it just isn’t enough. It is impossible to figure out new singles and album releases.
SO… I figured that the job itself is to get to every record label and have them send a consistently updated list of new releases. Then organize em every which way from potential hits, to in alphabetical order, by day, week, month… Not to review em but stay on the side of business and build a useful tool .
What would be needed is an intern with a laptop and enough smarts to listen to how I tell em to do it.
SohoJohnny thinks we should just put it on our front page, I see it as an adjunct linked to rock nyc.
Broadway bound, right?
