rock nyc Top Songs 7-8-16 – 7-14-16

St. Paul’s (Westerberg Comprehensive) – Martha – The final song on their sophomore effort is maybe my biggest song of the summer, a dramatic acoustic guitar strum about, boys in school uniforms kissing on the bus, and turning to the Replacements for supplication.

Hemophilia – Copywrite – From Robert De Niro’s Al Capone monologue excerpt to kick it all off, Copywrite blasts so hard on this track it is all murderous slamdunks, “I’m a bad man in a bad mood…” he warns and then he proves it. “Only one rapper who can fuck with me and fuck you ain’t him…” You would be silly to doubt him.

Drinkee – Sofi Tukker  – As catchy as hell, this is a haunted nursery rhyme.

Frankie Sinatra – The Avalanches – Wildflower is gonna be hard to topple for the album of the summer, if it would just catch on already, I don’t mean the best but I do mean a sort of joyful, fun packed, defining soundtrack for young people and warm weather… again, if. This  Wilmoth Houdini’s “Bobby Sox Idol” sampled, Danny Brown and MF Doomed performed gypsy calypso track, a glorious and terrific ode, should be near the top of your summer list as well.

The House Always Wins – William Bell – This is not just recently recorded, it is also recently written, and it teaches every soul pretender the facts of life, that to sing soul you must not just have soul but have mad mad mad skills.
