Public Enemy’s Legendary Hip Hop Producer / Mixologist
KEITH SHOCKLEE Joins the True Groove All-Stars Band
11/29/18, NYC: For the past five years, True Groove Records has been re-writing the story of independent labels, recording artists, and the sound of black America. Today, True Groove are proud to announce the addition of an original Hip Hop Architect and one of the founding members of Public Enemy and The Bomb Squad, Keith Shocklee, to NYC’s True Groove All-Stars Touring and recording band.
In a recently issued statement Shocklee says, “I’m very excited about expanding my relationship with True Groove. You know how I do what I do and to be able to add that to the heat that they’re already bringing, you know it’s gonna be funky!”
True Groove CEO/Band Leader Tomás Doncker adds, “To have Keith as a member of the True Groove Family is both an honor and a blessing. We’re looking forward to pushing the envelope further on the stage and in the studio. It’s gonna be a blast!”
Shocklee was fundamental in the creation of four of the greatest rap albums of all time with Public Enemy, including It Takes a Nation of Millions to Hold Us Back and Fear of a Black Planet. He has collaborated with LL Cool J, Bell Biv Devoe, Ice Cube, Paula Abdul, and more. Shocklee also contributed to the soundtracks for the motion pictures House Party and the genre-changing Juice, starring True Groove recording artist Khalil Kain and the legendary Tupac Shakur. Shocklee recently remixed tracks for True Groove artist Sam Huber in their joint EP release, NY#1: The Keith Shocklee Remix Project.
True Groove Records CEO Tomás Doncker has been an active part of the New York music scene since the late 1970s. After joining the seminal no-wave band James Chance & The Contortions at the age of nineteen, Doncker emerged as a premiere guitarist in the post-punk scene. He has since performed with Yoko Ono, Meshell Ndegeocello, Bootsy Collins, Ivan Neville and Bonnie Raitt among many other greats. Doncker has recorded two well-received solo albums and joined forces with New York Poet Laureate Yusef Komunyakaa on The Mercy Suite and Big Apple Blues. Other True Groove Records recording artists include performance artist, playwright and rocker Marla Mase and Finnish funk superstar Sam Huber. Huber and the All-Stars toured Finland during the summer of 2018, culminating with a command performance in NYC for Finland’s US Consul General, Ambassador Manu Virtamo.
