Press Releases For June: Here Are The Artists

press releases for June
Kris Baha is one of the artists in these press releases for June.

You Said Strange, Dylan Rodrigue, Nicholas Hamilton, BabyJake, Jo Hill, Danielle Ponder, Kris Baha are the artists in these press releases for June.

You Said Strange -“No Way Out”: An indie pop song with a grooving rhythm section, insistent catchy guitar riffs, layered instrumentation, and dreamy vocals building an intense atmosphere. Speaking on the track, the band wrote: “‘No Way Out’ is the opening of “Thousand Shadows Vol. 2.” It is an initial situation and a triggering incident at the same time. There’s a wall depicted along the piece, which sooner or later, everyone confronts. Sometimes, we climb it by ourselves, and sometimes with the help of others. The question remains, how to bring it down.” At the end of 2022, French psychedelic noise-pop quartet You Said Strange shared a new LP entitled “Thousand Shadows Vol. 1,” a release consisting of psychedelic pop, proto-grunge, and shoegaze sonics, inspired by the band’s experiences on tour across Europe and North America that year. Now, You Said Strange have shared the long-awaited follow-up to Vol. 1 entitled “Thousand Shadows Vol. 2” (via EXAG / Le Cépe Records). Together, both Volumes compose the band’s sophomore LP. “A second chapter was needed to highlight the many shadows that still linger everywhere,” said the band. “The shadows that linger on the borders, hiding the violence of the fights for them. The shadows that time has on relationships and their persistence, because the shadows move.” Amidst themes of shoegaze, noise pop, and psychedelic rock throughout the upcoming release, You Said Strange incants their music in which melancholy, love, and the search for plenitude meet. As the band continued: “Plato’s cave, in a modern version, would be one of the toxic relationships, antidepressants, and the acceptance of the regression of freedom and/or the vision of a dying world…”

Dylan Rodrigue – “Goodbye”: A poignant track with yearning, raw vocals, and a cathartic melody served by acoustic guitar, strings, keys, and explosive drums. “The song, to me, feels like a brief snapshot of the grieving process,” says Rodrigue. “My father died in 2019 and I was thinking about the many ways in which we cope with loss: indulging in vices, acting irrationally, and feeling a general lack of purpose in life. Strangely, it’s the act of creating the music that seems to regain that sense of purpose for myself. Pain and suffering are inevitable, yet it’s possible to transform all of that garbage into something new; something that transcends the negativity it was derived from.” The song was released with an AI video directed by Dillon Moore, conceptualized and filmed in just a few weeks with a limited budget. Moore combined a mix of AI and real footage and filmed the resulting video on a VHS camera. The process began with Moore inputting photos of Rodrigue into Midjourney, a generative AI program and image creator, to design a life-like puppet of the artist. He then performance-captured his own face lip-syncing the song to animate the puppet using his iPhone. Finally, Moore used DALL-E to set backgrounds behind the puppet, placing real footage in key places—scenes behind the car window, the roach crossing the AI-generated bar, and the roller coaster footage inside the AI-generated TV—in order to make the world feel more cohesive. “Being able to come up with a concept and actualize it in a couple of weeks was pretty mind-blowing, there was never a moment where I had to wait for something to happen” says Moore. “We were able to focus solely on the creative side of things and get near-instant gratification, being able to react and interact with the AI to help shape something we love in a short amount of time on our own without a budget.”

Nicholas Hamilton – “Alone”: A sincere and emotive ballad on keys with vocal prowess and a sweet melody. “Alone” is the first single from Nicholas Hamilton’s forthcoming second EP, “FATE,” out this fall. “Growing up, and even as I moved into my 20’s, I loved the independence of being on my own,” Hamilton wrote. “No one to report to or rely on, just me, myself and I. The moment I moved to NYC at the end of 2021, after almost a year of floating around the world, sleeping on couches, and shooting movies with barely a cent in my bank account, I felt different. I wanted to experience life with someone. I found myself calling my parents more often, making plans to hang out with friends, just to escape the suddenly dreaded feeling of being alone. ‘Alone’ was born out of this sensation, which was as foreign to me as the city I’d just moved to. ‘Alone is not what it once was. Remember when it was nice?'” An accomplished star in film, music, and social media, 22-year-old Australian-born artist Nicholas Hamilton has been entertaining audiences and winning over critics alike from his earliest years.  Well-known for his roles in films such as the screen adaptation of Stephen King’s IT Franchise and Academy-Award-nominated Captain Fantastic (for which he is also featured on the soundtrack), the debonair and often outspoken Hamilton has seen his audience grow well into the millions as he poignantly displays both his talents and his personal life across multiple mediums and platforms. A recently anointed viral mixologist sensation on TikTok, where he has amassed over 1.7 million followers, Hamilton seamlessly crosses genres and art forms by ensuring that all his creative output has a deeply personal touch.

BabyJake – “Gambler’s Prayer”: A guitar ballad accompanied by BabyJake’s raspy voice evoking the sweetest Rolling Stones/Faces/CSN classics from the ‘70s. “I ain’t really sure what ‘Gambler’s Prayer’ is about in totality,” BabyJake wrote, “Part of the song is me speaking in third person, part of it isn’t. Most of the song is actually me talking to myself and a lot of the time that may not seem to be the case. I guess it’s really just a version of a song in which I keep calling myself out on my own bullshit. The first line is ‘Everybody has their weakness, for me and mine its cash in hand,’ and really, that’s me talking about being broke & spending all the money I once had…The hook on the other hand is purely up for interpretation. To me, it was yet again a message to myself ‘Stop crying ya fucking baby!! Let it bleed, let the blood run out,’ yanno? Not even in a suicidal sense…just in a sense of ‘Well, I’m broke & busted…there ain’t much else I can do but run head-on & figure this shit out…The bullets will sting but I’ll get through it hopefully.’ The song is quite emotional for me…Shit don’t go the way ya always want it to, that’s the punch line.” Chosen as a VEVO DSCVR artist and frequent collaborator with artists such as 24kgldn to Dillon Francis, Nashville-based singer-songwriter BabyJake has made an indelible mark on the modern music landscape since his debut in 2019 with “Cigarettes on Patios.”

Jo Hill -“Off The 45”: Tense guitars and bright vocals for a playful song building a big poppy hook for the chorus. “This EP reflects the ‘cinematic’ way in which I see the world I grew up in,” says rising UK-based artist Jo Hill. “The West Country is an often-forgotten space. There’s not much going on there but it’s where I grew up. These stories feel extremely specific to me but are also a collective experience shared amongst young people growing up in the middle of nowhere. We must make one’s own entertainment in order to find the extraordinary in the mundane.” “Cinematic Baby,” the forthcoming EP from rising U.K.-based artist Jo Hill, is set for release on June 16. The new music showcases Hill’s lofty range as a singer/songwriter while growing her already fiercely passionate fanbase. In celebration of the upcoming EP, Hill is debuting the EP’s lead single “Off The 45” with an accompanying video. Born in Cheddar, England, Hill’s introduction to music began while studying opera in Bristol, which was where she also started working for the refugee arts organization The Good Chance. Combining these two passions, Hill began teaching music in the Middle East while studying Anthropology and Arabic. When lockdown hit, she moved back to her hometown and worked on a strawberry farm, keeping positive and creative through her “Song In A Day” series on Instagram. Hill self-released her debut EP “Down at The Res” in April 2022. The five-track project was written, recorded, and produced in her bedroom, highlighting her DIY spirit. The EP’s lead track, “Honeymoon,” has since amassed over 2 million global streams.

Danielle Ponder – “Roll the Credits”: A cinematic song with its mystery and dark beauty while building a widescreen for Danielle Ponder’s powerhouse. The track comes alongside a new video directed by Hettie Barnhill, a cinematic spiritual journey filmed with a small crew in beautiful San Juan, Puerto Rico. “‘Roll the Credits’ is a song about spirituality in all of its forms and our ability to find God in all things if we are paying attention,” says Ponder. Produced by frequent collaborator Gianluca Buccellati (Lana Del Rey, Arlo Parks, Biig Piig), “Roll the Credits” finds Ponder exploring the sonic evolution of her voice, re-packaging the powerful confidence that underlines her eight-track debut album, Some Of Us Are Brave, released last year. Throughout her latest tour, Ponder played the new single for fans across North America and Europe, as it quickly became a crowd favorite. The new track follows Ponder’s debut on the long-running soap opera “General Hospital” after a landmark 2022 for the breakthrough artist, who made her first television appearance on “Late Night with Seth Meyers” last spring. Additionally, she performed her song “Someone Like You” on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!” Ponder was the guest artist on the season finale of “Live Wire” and featured on “CBS Saturday Morning” as part of their Saturday Sessions series with a performance and interview with Michelle Miller. Ponder’s debut album “Some Of Us Are Brave” is out now to widespread critical praise on Future Classic.” In Ponder’s life, bravery manifested in the decision to leave her successful day job as a public defender to pursue singing and songwriting full-time. Ponder had always been musical but chose to pursue a career in law after her brother received a 20-year sentence due to a “three strikes” law. But even as she became a tireless advocate for justice in her community—first as a public defender and later as a diversity, equity, and inclusion officer in that same office—music was never far away; she remembers a time when she did a small tour in Europe and was back in court the following Monday. There eventually came a time to choose one, and so she leaped.

Kris Baha – “Nothing Is Real”: An electronic industrial cut on layered synths opening a techno-punk dancefloor for after-dark night clubs. This is the lead single of the upcoming album by renowned Berlin-based industrial techno/synth punk artist Kris Baha. “GHOSTS IN THE MACHIИE is a sci-fi cyber wave-inspired concept that is set in two timelines, a future looking back to the now and how we could have corrected our society before the AI take over and strip away our souls, becoming Ghosts In The Machine… ‘Nothing is Real’ is a cyber body music odyssey about social media’s influences on society, priming us before the AI machines take over,” Kris Baha declared. A fixture in Berlin’s Industrial EBM & club scene, his own skewed, mutant productions have their own sound space between industrial, EBM, wave, post-punk, early ‘90s IDM, and krautrock. In 2021 Kris released ‘Into The Dark,’ delving into the live music sensibility of Kris’s production skillset, coming full circle to his former songwriting background. ‘Into the Dark’ mirrors the feeling of late 80’s / 90’s musical transitional phases in the Industrial/ Wave scene and in some way is reflective of Kris’s current musical direction as he presents himself in a different shade of dark. Kris’s latest output starts this April 2023 in collaboration with his new band moniker, GHOSTS IN THE MACHIИE. GHOSTS IN THE MACHIИE is a sci-fi cyber wave-inspired concept that is set in 2 timelines, a future looking back to the now and how we could have corrected our society before the AI take over and strip away our souls, becoming Ghosts In The Machine. The single, ‘Nothing is Real’ is a cyber body music odyssey about social media’s influences on society, priming us before the AI machines take over.
