Press Releases For July: Here Are The Artists

 press releases for July
SWIMM are among these press releases for July

Malick Koly, maeve & quinn, Ashton Nyte, Dope Lemon, SWIMM, FRANKIIE, and Beharie are the artists among these press releases for July.

Malick Koly – “Heaven For Now”: Dark acoustic guitar chords, powerful and affecting vocals for a very melancholic and contemplative ballad, with unexpected sonic detours reminiscent of a grunge anthem of the ‘90s. NYC-based singer-songwriter, drummer, and producer Malick Koly will release his brand new EP, “Feel Bad Fest,” due August 18. The single features Ron Carter and Vernon Reid, and is a follow-up to his latest single, “Dolòr.” The holistic forthcoming EP was executively produced by Steve Jordan (who has drumming credits with Rolling Stones, the SNL and Late Night with David Letterman bands, the John Mayer Trio, Keith Richards’ X-Pensive Winos, and more). On their collaboration and Malick’s new single, Jordan wrote: “Malick gave me a call and asked me if I would participate, and there it was. Ron and Vernon were actually already involved. The song feels good! it’s got a lot of potentials, it’s interesting & different. Refreshing, and that’s why I am a part of this.”

maeve & quinn – “Jeweler’s Row”: Dreamy keys, breathtaking vocal hooks, and effortless harmonies for a pure pop song. This is the lead single off the sisters’ upcoming LP, “Another Door,” out on September 8. The song is inspired by a walk around Chicago’s Loop with a new friend, and is an ode to the deep acceptance found in friendship (“ won’t find some great dividing line”) — the feeling of holding and being held even at our lowest moments (“ told me sadness is a fine way to be.”) The twin sisters’ track leads with a blend of elegant piano and electric guitar, then rises into a melodic chorus that carries the listener into an anthemic, full-band outro. maeve & quinn’s sound is imaginative and skillfully rendered across the many instruments they play (guitar, violin, piano, voice) and distinctive in its genre-bending fusion of alt-rock, folk, and pop that’s accentuated by blood harmonies and dynamic interplay. The open, majestic landscape of an Alaskan upbringing can be felt in their music and performances. Their lifelong friendship as twin sisters makes for a unique collaboration and songs that are an intimate conversation, multi-layered in perspective and fluid between past and present.

Ashton Nyte – “Something Beautiful”: Distinctive vocals over a simple guitar ballad that grows in poignancy and gravitas. The South African-born, U.S.-based singer-songwriter, producer, and composer will release his eighth album, “Autumn’s Children” on August 25. The lead single is a song that Nyte says “explores a relationship from the perspective of someone who feels undeserving of happiness or love but is grateful nonetheless.” Nyte adds, “The new work has a fragile vulnerability to it which I’ve never fully revealed before. It is a terrifying and exhilarating new chapter for me.” Like its predecessor, “Waiting For A Voice” (2020), the 11-track Autumn’s Children will also be accompanied by a book of short stories, poetry, and musings, expanding on the themes of the album. Based in the U.S., Ashton Nyte is a South African-born composer, singer, multi-instrumentalist, writer, and producer. He has released seven solo albums as Ashton Nyte and eleven albums as The Awakening, one of South Africa’s most prominent alternative rock bands. Nyte has contributed vocals and lyrics to a number of other projects, featuring members of The Cure, Cheap Trick, Peter Murphy, The Mission, and Beauty In Chaos, among many others. Described by music journalists as “Johannesburg’s Bowie” for his widely varying musical styles and theatrical performance approach, Nyte has a released catalog of over 300 original songs and has received airplay and chart success on major independent radio stations worldwide.

Dope Lemon –“Kimosabè”: An exotic track with whispering to lamenting vocals and melodic guitars building a unique atmosphere, inspired by the comedy cult classic film Step Brothers, with the track built around a sample from the film. This is the self-produced title track of Australia’s most celebrated indie artists’ new album due September 1 via BMG. The song is another effortless offering, complemented charmingly by Dope Lemon’s sedative voice. The charismatic bass line allows the song to flow seamlessly, as the sultry production emits a tranquil atmosphere, embracing listeners in a laid-back manner. Guided by a jovial funky strut and apt lyrics – “don’t go f*ck with my vibe” – the song’s motive and personality provide perception for the upcoming record. Kimosabè is a divine and open-armed universe, boasting ethereal and mesmerizing soundscapes that transcend the status quo. It’s the first Dope Lemon album that reveals the face of Angus Stone, the project’s brainchild, on its cover. “This record is everything that’s me,” notes Dope Lemon. “In the past, the artwork has been anonymous in a way because I was trying to explore these styles, and having this shield in front of me was beautiful – I could sort of slink around in the shadows and wouldn’t have the public make a judgment on the person behind it. In this record, I had moments of clarity reflecting on my childhood, and I was able to see where I want to be in the future. So putting myself on the cover just felt right.” He has also announced North American festival dates including Lollapalooza, Osheaga, Outside Lands, and Austin City Limits.

SWIMM – “Used To Saying Yes”: Whispered and sensual vocals for a sexy and fun synth-dancefloor echoing the funk-infused riffs of the ‘70s. On the track, the band wrote: “Hoping to usher in my ‘No’ era with this one. Not in a negative or pessimistic way, but I think being a ‘Yes person’ is an exhausting trope. ‘Used To Saying Yes’ is my reaction to an addiction I’ve had to the pace of Los Angeles. By all means, if a summer of toxic fun is what you’re craving—go to your friend’s show, hit the clurrrb on a Tuesday, get on the apps, or scope out that weird sex party in the Hills—just remember you might feel happier and more like yourself if you say no sometimes. ‘Used To Saying Yes’ started with a groove Hany recorded. He has this ability to write grooves that instantly inhabit a whole world in my brain. The way he puts things together baffles me in a beautiful way. I had a blast building out this song with a super old and very cheap Yamaha keyboard I’d had forever. I think I got it at Best Buy when I was in college, but it has these really cool organ tones and absurd saw wave synth sounds—some of which I recorded in the song as an homage to Bastard Lovechild of Rock n’ Roll—the first band Adam and I were in together.” LA-based psych-pop group SWIMM prepare to release their sophomore LP “Best Comedown Ever “on August 10. Earlier this year, SWIMM shared two singles off their forthcoming record, “Talk To Me,” “No Ties,” and “Fools,” featuring Goldensuns.

FRANKIIE – “Golden Days”: Bedroom pop with dreamy vocals, surf guitars, and a strong psychedelic vibe. Of the track, the band wrote: “FRANKIIE started as a project in 2013. For many years, the core members were the same but eventually in early 2020 our original drummer Zoe left the band. It was a really hard time, with the world shutting down and an inability to physically get together and resolve differences. This song grew out of the love of our times together in the band; touring, performing and sharing some of the best moments of our lives. It was a way for us to mourn and process this loss and to acknowledge the closing of that beautiful chapter in our lives.” FRANKIIE amalgamates sonic elements of psychedelia, timelessness, and existential musings into their dreamy, harmonious pop songs. They meld reverb-soaked dream-pop with vintage classic rock and bedroom-psych, with beachy shoegaze. FRANKIIE explores a sound in which there are no limits and where magic abounds. Between Dreams is a soundtrack made for summer. This new album “Between Dreams” arrives alongside a video, created by Andrea Nazarian, for the LP’s focus track, “Golden Days” providing a cinematic glimpse into the inner world of a top-level gymnast, the unbreakable bond he shares with his coach, and the heartbreaking devastation they face after a sudden season-ending injury.

Beharie – “Deadly”: A groovy love song with an irresistible jazz-inflected, alternative-soul melody. “Deadly” captures the early stages of new love, from fear to curiosity to sweeping excitement. Gearing up to take a leap into love, Beharie says the tender tune is, “about falling in love and feeling obsessed with a person. It’s kind of scary, but also really intriguing. It came out of nowhere, and now you are ready and willing to really jump into it.” Norwegian alternative R&B-soul singer-songwriter Beharie has announced his fervent debut album “Are You There, Boy?” due out October 20. The forthcoming bright, wistful album “Are You There, Boy?” meets Beharie where he is today and invites listeners into a brand new, carefully curated sonic world. Through vibrant melodies and delicate, smooth vocals, the artist explores nuanced themes of love, self-doubt, desire, longing, and pain with his heart on his sleeve. Over 12 tracks, the project follows a multi-faceted character who seeks meaningful connections, follows his curiosity where it takes him, and ultimately discovers more of himself. Delving into the album’s story and its main character, Beharie says, “This album conveys stories of a complex character. He is confident, emotional, insecure, curious, loving, and looking for connections. He is searching for both someone and himself. Longing for true connections with the world and with himself. He is confident, playful, and daring, but also insecure and not always fully present.” The album features collaborations by two rising singer-songwriters — Uly based in Dublin and Judy Blank based in The Netherlands. It was mastered by Guy Davie (Michael Kiwanuka) at Electric Mastering in London.
