Power Trip : Goldenvoice’s New Desert Trip Festival

Power Trip
Ozzy Osbourne

Back in 2016, Goldenvoice organized a memorable Desert Trip festival at Coachella’s home base, Empire Polo Field in Indio. You may remember that this “old Coachella” had an incredible lineup, a wet dream for any classic-rock fan: Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, Bob Dylan, Neil Young, the Who, and Roger Waters. It was a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and it seems that Goldenvoice is about to repeat the idea with a twist, a hard-rock/heavy metal twist: let’s meet Power Trip!

The official announcement of the lineup is expected tomorrow but multiple sources, including a Power Trip Live Instagram page, are already giving away the probable lineup. In particular, a video screaming heavy riffs and showing a Gibson SG guitar, a stack of amplifiers, and cactuses in the shape of the devil’s horns, has been shared by Iron Maiden, Ozzy Osbourne, Metallica, AC/DC, Tool, Guns N’ Roses… Imagine this exciting lineup if you are a hard rock/metal fan!

It’s not too different from the 2016 edition, since all these bands are veterans and have toured for many decades. However, the addition of Ozzy Osbourne is surprising since he announced the cancellation of his upcoming concerts last February, admitting he was no more physically capable of touring. Power Trip is one big show and not a tour, but this could well be one of the last times to see Ozzy live. His appearance was confirmed today, and according to Sharon, the famous rocker is doing much better. The concentration of all these bands on the same stage could lead to some impromptu collaborations: Guns N’ Roses’ Axl Rose has already filled in for singer Brian Johnson for some dates of their North American tour in 2016.

The festival will take place the weekend of October 6-8, and a website has already been set up for different pass options, I presume. We may know everything about this hard rock sequel to the 2016 Desert Trip festival, tomorrow, but the burning question is: will it be affordable? Probably not…
