Must See: The Cure At Madison Square Garden, June, 2016

I saw The Cure a number of times between the early 1980s and the mid 1990s but after that the stars never really aligned right so passed on a couple of tours. Perhaps I thought Robert would never ever match the September 1996 gig at Radio City Music Hall, pushing one of their great albums, Wild Mood Swings, and a 32 song setlist that was really great. And hasn’t changed that much in the past twenty years, I might.

I interviewed them once as well, and in retrospect it was hysterical poor hungover Robert Smith, was forced to apologize for using bigger amplifiers (“we wanted it to sound better and since we can afford it…”). We had a coupla Heinekens and everybody felt better soon after.

I went to Duane Reade for Ticketmaster tickets, and the guy who handled it was a real pro back in those days and got me fourth row. Those were the glory days of ticket buying, prices were still relatively low and with a friend at Ticketmaster and only buying one, I was consistently getting great seats.

They added Monday, June 20th, and I couldn’t resist it. I picked myself up a ticket and while I know it is about as far from fourth row as you can get, and I know I am honor bound to be bummed out, but even so, if it is just HALF AS GOOD…
