Live Through This: Top Concert Picks Week Of June 20th, 2016

I haven’t seen the Cure since the 1990s, when I saw the band a number of times with varying degrees of pleasure, though at his best Robert is certainly an emotional hotspot. The current tour has a career spanning, wide ranging, 30 songs plus of hits and album tracks. Monday at Madison Square Garden, he rest on his laurels one more time.

Monday – Jackson Browne – Browne, in need of money no doubt, has been playing the city quite a lot the best few years. Our gain, no doubt.

Tuesday – Dave Matthews Band – Jones Beach – The other other jam band, is the white meat of jazz and soul afflicted mainstream jam for folks who smoke too much dope for their own good.

Tuesday – Ellie Goulding – Madison Square Garden – I don’t much care for her dance pop on record, but on stage she is a very good performer.

Tuesday – Wye Oak – Warsaw –  The indie duo just released their best album to date and we should get a healthy helping of it.

Wednesday – Robert Ellis – Bowery Ballroom – The soon to be beloved Americana star has done nothing but make friends since he came on the scene, and he is a personable live show

Thursday – A$AP FERG & TORY LANEZ: The Level Up Tour – Irving Plaza – A$AP’s new Always Strive And Prosper, puts him near the top of the A$AP class, and the man is great fun on stage. Irving Plaza I am less certain about…

Thursday – Amy Schumer – Madison Square Garden – Hysterically funny when she opened for Madonna last year, and there is no reason to expect less now

Thursday, Friday – Randy Bachman (Formerly of Bachman-Turner Overdrive & The Guess Who) – BB Kings – Obviously, we have seen something yet but maybe see it again?

Friday – The Mavericks – Beacon Theatre – They were great at the Town Hall last year, only Los Lobos does it better.

Saturday – Dolly Parton – Forest Hills Stadium – I’ve read the complaints myself, that she is lip syncing, so let her and leave her alone and represent.

Sunday – Dead And Company – Citifield – I’m not a believer but if it was a day show I’d make the move.
