Live Through This: Top Concert Picks For The Week Of May 27th, 2019

Going from Kanye West and Guns ‘N’ Roses to Tyler The Creator and The Strokes as your headliner is the second law of thermodynamics in action as Governors Ball at Randall’s Island  arrives next the weekend (Friday – Sunday), for the eight time. Always in danger of getting rained out (three times while I’ve been there), the weather as I write will be sunny and warm. Good news for my Great niece, joining me for the second year in search of The 1975. As for me, from Jessie Reyez to King Princess to Noname to SZA, a lot of names I am wanting to check out. Especially Noname.

Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday  – Yanni – Lunt-Fontanne – Eh???

Tuesday – The True Groove ALlstars – The Bitter End – Sam Huber is in Finland and slide guitarist Artur Uronen is about to join him, which makes the summer blow art a must see. That, plus Khalil Kain…

Wednesday, Thursday  – Rufus Wainwright – City Winery – No longer a god, but is he human enough for such a small venue?

Wednesday – The Voidz – Market Hotel – There should be a lotta Ballers around

Wednesday – Weyes Blood – MHOW

Thursday – Anderson .Paak & The Free Nationals – Madison Square Garden – Have two naff albums in a row, Anderson’s moment might have passed. And while I certainly do love Earl Sweatshirt, how can he warm up MSG? Still, I bet Anderson brings his best.

Thursday – Fantastic Negrito – Brooklyn Bowl

Thursday – Geto Boys – Sony Hall – Early gangsta

Friday – Ian Hunter – City Winery – The Mott are gone

Friday, Saturday – Bikini Kill – Brooklyn Steel – There’s a riot grrrl going on

Friday . Saturday – L7 – Elsewhere – The working class Runaways

Friday – Rolling Blackouts Coastal Fever – Warsaw

Friday – Noname – Brooklyn Ball

Saturday – Kaytranada – Villain

Saturday – Youssou N’dour – BAM Howard Gilman Opera House

Saturday – Glen Hansard – Beacon Theatre – If Americana gets no better than Glen -well, it doesn’t need to

Sunday – Summer Jam – Metlife – Cardi B and Meek Mill headlining.
