Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks For The Week Of October 14th, 2019

In a weak year for rap, women rappers , at least, have upheld their end. And none more so than the exceptional Megan Thee Stallion (a reference to her 5’10”), a hard edge rapper with sex on her mind and female empowerment in her digits. “Hot Girl Summer” brought her together with Nicki Minaj, and the album, Fever, is one of the best of the year. She is at Music Hall Of Williamsburg Steve Madden Presents free show on Monday… Good luck getting a ticket.

Monday – Yungblud – Webster Hall – The popular glammy UK bad boy arrives, I would if he will bring Halsey with him?

Monday, Tuesday – Post Malone Runaway – Madison Square Garden – Hot as you can get, Post was excellent when I saw him at Barclays last year (here)

Tuesday – The Black Keys – Let’s Rock Tour – Barclay Center – The blues stars are back…

Tuesday – Rick Ross – Port Of Miami 2 Tour – The last album sank without a trace, and he never got back after his heart attack. But he has a terrific voice, and since we can’t have Biggie, should be worth checking out.

Tuesday – Frank Turner : No Man’s Land – Town Hall

Tuesday – Kacey Musgraves: Oh, What a World: Tour II – Radio City Music Hall – Maybe she will do that burning one with John Prine

Tuesday – Steely Dan – Beacon Theatre – If Fagen couldn’t get it up for The Nightfly, I’m not sure I can recommend it, unless you’ve never seen Dan (Steely died)

Tuesday – Wynonna Judd & Cactus Moser – Cafe Carlyle

Tuesday – Orville Peck – MHOW – Alyson liked him

Wednesday – Natasha Bedingfield – Webster Hall

Wednesday – Kacey Musgraves: Oh, What a World: Tour II – Radio City Music Hall – Did you read Steve Crawford’s review from a Texas show (here)? I’ve seen her opening for other folks a coupla times, and I’m not that big a fan, but I trust Steve… hmmmm…

Thursday – The Chainsmokers/5 Seconds of Summer/Lennon Stella: World War Joy Tour – Barclay Center – As DJ duos turning pop, the Chainsmokers are top notch but hitless for the past coupla years

Thursday – Sam Fender – Bowery Ballroom – The UK agitprop rocker is overrated, sure, but not THAT overrated

Thursday – AdHoc Presents: Vivian Girls – Warsaw – Welcome them back…

Friday – Larry Carlton (1978 Steely Dan Album) – Iridium – I’d rather see this than Fagen’s residency at the Beacon.

Friday – Sabrina Claudio – Truth Is Tour – Hammerstein Ballroom

Saturday – Mudhoney, Kid Congo Powers & The Pink Monkey Birds – Not loving the new Mudhoney, not hating it either…
