Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks For the Week of February 10th, 2020

I’d never really thought of it before, but my friend Justine Giordano said she believed “Hotel California” was about drugs, and I said I think it was about ripping off Warren Zevon, which it was of course, but it is more a Cali light of day nightmare or rather an extended metaphor for listening to the blasted song: you can checkout anytime you like but you can never leave. The Eagles are performing the entire album at Madison Square Garden on Friday and Saturday. I’ll be there on Friday, look up, no further up… yes, that’ll be me.

Monday – Andrea Bocelli – Metropolitan Opera House

Monday, Tuesday – Mr. Bungle – Brooklyn Steel – Caveat emptor, it is the lead singer of Faith No More’s band

Tuesday – The Used – Gramercy Theatre – I know you want to check out the Gramercy but ask yourself this: do you want to check out a band whose latest single is called “Paradise Lost, a poem by John Milton”?

Wednesday, Thursday – Tove Lo – Brooklyn Steel – Man, I love this woman: “Bikini Porn” is the most fun of the entire year! The girl who invented lady wood!

Wednesday – Songwriters Under the Covers with Victoria Shaw With Guests: Songwriters Shelly Peiken, Chely Wright, With Rising Stars Carly & Martina  – Iridium

Thursday – The Lumineers – III: The World Tour – Barclay Center – Just about sold out…

Thursday, Friday – An Intimate Acoustic Evening With Peter Noone Of Herman’s Hermits On Broadway – did you ever read Helen Bach’s interview with Peter? Here it is…

Thursday – Saint Motel: The Motion Picture Show – Webster Hall – Congrats to the boys on selling out the venue

Thursday – 808s & HEARTBREAK: The Entire Kanye West Album Performed by Remember Jones & A 25-PIECE ORCHESTRA – Brooklyn Bowl – If this was at the Cutting Room I would absolutely go.

Thursday – Governors Ball Presents EarthGang: Welcome to Mirrorland Tour – Warsaw

Thursday – Raphael Saadiq – Terminal 5

Friday – Anna Of The North – Bowery Ballroom

Friday – Continuous Gratitude: A spiritual gathering hosted by Antibalas trumpeter Jordan McLean – sounds, er, interesting?

Saturday – Live from Here With Chris Thile – Town Hall – Chris is as popular as whoever his guests are, the interest this week is mine, and not the slow as hell selling Town Hall, Ken Burns. I might have gone only, Indigo Girls? I just can’t…

Saturday – Ladies Night R&B Super Jam – Barclay Center – Maxwell, En Vogue, The Dream, and they can’t move tickets…

Saturday – Marc Anthony – Opus Tour 2020 – Prudential Center – fresh off seeing the mother of his children at the Super Bowl halftime show…

Sunday – Strawberry Fields All Ages Beatles Brunch – Iridum – Back from BB Kings…
