Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks 8-13-18 – 8-19-18

If K.T.S.E.  isn’t the album of the year, it doesn’t miss by much, and if Teyana Taylor, a reality star and Kanye West muse, didn’t break through the way she might have, blame the time and timing, blame blind bad luck. She is opening for Jeremih at PlayStation on Monday -which makes her the first of the five post West artists to release albums in June to play the city… which makes it big time. I can not even wait to hear “Hurry” live.

Monday – Ella Mai: “BOO’D UP” THE TOUR – Music Hall of Williamsburg – The former X Factor contender was terrific when she joined H.E.R. at Barclays Center last month and her new single, “Trip,” a huge one, is excellent, so I would guess that the chill r&b singer will really be on her game for this one.

Tuesday – Stars Align Tour: Jeff Beck & Paul Rodgers and Ann Wilson of Heart – Jones Beach – Hmmm, old fogeys sure but two of them are great singers and one is a great guitarist, maybe they’ll perform “Hi Ho Silver Lining” together…

Tuesday – The Decemberists, Hamilton Leithauser – BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival, Prospect Park West – I can’t take the alt-folky Decemberists on record, on live they know how to command an audience.

Tuesday – Maceo Parker – Sony Hall – Played saxophone for James Brown… and other stuff…

Thursday – Geoff Emerick and Denny Laine “From Liverpool To London Town” – Iridium – Denny was terrific at the late lamented BB Kings earlier this year, forget Geoff’s engineering work with George and the Beatles, simply having produced Elvis Costello’s   Imperial Bedroom is enough to make this a must see.

Thursday – Justin Hayward – City Winery -The second Moody Blues lead singer performing in NYC on Thursday,  the first one is at Iridium.

Saturday, Sunday – Billboard Hot 100 Music Festival – Jones Beach –  I went last year and found it a little too busy for my tastes, Halsey, Rae Sremmurd, Future, Lil Xan, DJ Snake… many other great names.

Saturday – Bad Bunny – La Nueva Religion Tour – Prudential Center – I was a little disappointed when I saw this show earlier this year at United Palace… maybe the Latin Trap God has warmed up.

Saturday – Kenny Chesney: Trip Around the Sun Tour – MetLife Stadium – I caught him at MSG years ago and he encored with “She Thinks My Tractor’s Sexy” -I bet you don’t get that lucky given Kenny’s  meh new album.

Saturday – The Diplomats: Dipset Forever Reunion Tour Ft Special Guest Dave East – Ford Amphitheater at Coney Island Boardwalk – Look at this: Dipset, The Diplomats, Dave East, Cam’ron, Jim Jones, and more. I wonder if my nephew Jeff McColl is going…

Sunday -The Summer Ever After Tour feat. All Time Low & Dashboard Confessional – Two top emo acts, Chris Carrabba’s latest single, “KindaYeahSorta” is ace.
