Live Through This: rock nyc’s Top Concert Picks 5-29-17 – 6-4-17

I have begged and pleaded with Governors Ball to change the dates of the festival, they get nailed by rain constantly and I don’t care who is performing, if it is raining all the way through the day at an outdoor festival it is a new miserable experience. Last year, new owners Live Nation CANCELLED Sunday, we didn’t get Kanye West. It is irresponsible and irritating. There has been smelly swamp days and dangerous thunder and lightning nights and right now it appears as though both Saturday and Sunday is gonna be washouts the dumbass morons. This is the end of the road for me, one more lousy day at Randall’s Island and I am done. Having said all that, Saturday is sunny and 76 and a killer line up: Charli XCX, Bleachers, Danny Brown, Lorde, and Chance The Rapper: that’s entertainment. Saturday less so, with two lousy headliners, Phoenix and Childish Gambino, but a better start off: Jessie Reyes, Saint Motel, Car Seat Headrest, Stormzy, YG, A$AP Ferg, Mark Ronson. Sunday is the worst but I may show up for half a day if it isn’t raining, Barnes Courtney, the Orwells, Parquet Courts… a coupla others. If it is raining? Not a shot in hell. I  am going to Prudential that night.

Tuesday – Lulu – BB Kings – I was a little disappointed when I saw her a coupla years ago, I prefer the saucy London bird to the heavy duty soul singer. But I will live with the heavy soul singer if that’s the only option.

Tuesday, Wednesday – John Mayall – Iridium – The Bluesbreaker still breaking blues.

Thursday – Saturday – Norm MacDonald – Carolines On Broadway – The greatest deadpan in the business.

Thursday – David Byrne Presents: How Music Works Variety Show – Town Hall – Wanna know how music works, David?  Shut up and sing Talking Heads songs, that’s how music work. It’s your gift, use it to make people happy.

Thursday – Sirius XM Presents- The 1975 – Madison Square Garden – I saw em nearly exactly a year ago and they were awe inspiring (my review) but I was gonna give this one a miss but I got a call from my 14 year old niece asking me to take her so there I will be instead of…

Thursday – Billy Joe Shaver, Ray Wylie Hubbard – Hill County – Yeah, I had tickets for this awesome double bill but family first.

Saturday – KTUphoria 2017 – Jones Beach – If this was closer, I’d be so there…  Backstreet Boys, Fifth Harmony, Nicky Jam, Jason Derulo, Shaggy, Daya, Craig David.

Saturday – Kool & the Gang – BB Kings – Celebration time, come on…

Saturday – Lupe Fiasco, Daylyt, Dayne Jordan – Highline Ballroom – There was a time when Lupe had the world in the palm of his hand… and then he kinda blew it.

Sunday –  The Weeknd, Rae Sremmurd, Belly, 6lack – Prudential Center – I had a ticket for  next Tuesday at Barclays but it is the same day as Donovan, so I am blowing off Tool at Governors Ball and going to this one. State of the art line up.
