Bob Dylan back at the Beacon
Back in the late 70s, early 80s, if the Ramones were in town you could catch em any number of times a month, and I went very often. I felt as though it would never, could never end. But end it did. I catch Dylan whenever he is in town, but I am older now and realize that, for either him or me, it will end one day; in other words the Beacon Theatre Residency is a must see. Meanwhile, he has stopped with the Sinatra songs (not a plus for me, I love the albums), and has added “When I Paint My Masterpiece” to the “Things Have Changed” to “Blowing In The Wind” setlist. I’m going on Friday night, but he is there all week.
Monday – Pusha T Daytona Tour – Irving Plaza – AFter the violence in Canada last week, let’s just hope there is no spillover.
Monday – Amine – Brooklyn Steel
Monday, Tuesday – Thom Yorke – King’s Theatre – Suspiria was OK, especially the actual songs, and he tends to be looser without Radiohead.
Monday – Freddie Gibbs – Highline Ballroom – One of the top gangsta rappers anywhere.
Tuesday, Wednesday – TRAVIS SCOTT – ASTROWORLD: WISH YOU WERE HERE TOUR – Madison Square Garden – I’ve never been very thrilled by Travis live on stage, and even on record it took awhile, but Astroworld is the best rap album of the year, better than mentor Kanye West’s. Also, get there early, Trippie Redd can not be missed.

Tuesday – H.E.R. – Brooklyn Steel – I am going to Travis Scott otherwise I would have absolutely gone

Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday – The Hold Steady – Brooklyn Bowl – A quiet year but that single “Confusion In The Marketplace” reminds us that The Hold Steady are unconscionably uneven but when they hit it right they are unbeatable

Thursday, Friday – Dave Matthews Band – Madison Square Garden – If I wasn’t going to Dylan on Friday I would check this out. Indeed, I had convinced myself I was seeing Dylan on Saturday, went to buy a ticket, and figured I’d double check before I pulled the trigger.
