Live Through This: rock nyc Top Concert Picks Week Of March 27th, 2017

“The Madison Square Garden Company & Live Nation announced today that the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra will perform Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone at Radio City Music Hall on Friday, March 31 and Saturday, April 1 as part of the Harry Potter Film Concert Series. The concert will feature the live symphony orchestra performing, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone. Audiences will be able to relive the magic of the film in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing the orchestra perform John Williams’ unforgettable score.” I am going on Friday and I will say two things: 1-Till Broadway gets the otherworldly genius that is “Cursed Child” (my review of the West End production here), this will have to do and 2 – I disliked Sorcerer’s Stone the first time I saw it but I have seen it often since then and once I got past the characters I knew in my imagination coming to life it became my second favorite Potter movie.  Oh, and the music is excellent.

Tuesday – Garden Of Laughs – The Garden Of Dreams charity benefit will feature Leslie Jones (who I am gagging to see live), Tracy Morgan, John Oliver, Chris Rock, and Jerry Seinfeld. Impressive, right?

Tuesday – Minus the Bear, Beach Slang, Bayonne – Webster Hall – Beach Slang is the keeper here, a terrific rock band nearly ready to break huge.

Wednesday – Bebe Rexha, Daniel Skye, Spencer Ludwig – Irving Plaza –  Bebe is as hot as an EDM singer can get right now so maybe you wanna check her out before she is opening for Drake at Barclays.

Wednesday – Charlie Wilson’s In It To Win It Tour with Fantasia and Johnny Gill – Barclay’s Center – The Gap Band lead singer has a good new album out and Fantasia is always worth seeing.

Wednesday, Thursday  – Deadmau5 – Hammerstein Ballroom – I don’t like him in theory but in practise his last album was his best.

Thursday – Sleaford Mods – Warsaw – I am shocked I don’t like their new album but would be interested to see if the working class yobs can do it live.

Friday – King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard – Webster Hall – Best psycho garage psychedelic rockers.

Saturday – Chris Brown: The Party Tour Prudential Center – Brown is a jerk but a great dancer, Fabolous, who opens, isone of the greatest rappers of all time.

Saturday – Shinobi Ninja, Bodega Dream, No Shoes – Knitting Factory – The Shinobi’s new album is killer, their sound is expanding and they are one of New York’s great live experiences.

Sunday – Dorthaan’s Place Jazz Brunch: Bucky Pizzarelli, Ed Laub Duo – NJPAC – Man, that Bucky gets around, there is an 11am and 2pm showing.

Sunday – Stevie Nicks – Prudential Center – She was pretty good when I saw her last year.
