Jeff Lynne is the crown prince of Beatle tributers, from the Move to ELO, he reinvented their mix of strings and lush melodies in his own image, and finally became one (of sorts) in the Traveling WIlburys. He has spent the past year traveling around the world, plugging his last album and taking a victory lap. Jeff will be at Madison Square Garden Tuesday and Wednesday.
Monday – Ariana Grande – Irving Plaza – I was seriously considering this, you don’t get to see Ariana in a club very often and the new album is a goodie.
Tuesday – Michael McDonald – The Rooftop At Pier 17 – It was between this and ELO, the current Michael McDonald album is excellent and the venue is excellent, so it was really a toss up.
Thursday – Beach House – King’s Theatre – Their ambient sound is a little bit of an acquired taste, so acquire it.
Thursday – Sam Huber – The Bitter End – The soul singer backed by the great True Groove Allstars
Thursday -Fantastic Negrito – SOBs – Weirdo r&b
Friday – Aubrey And The Three Amigos – Madison Square Garden – Drake and Migos? For sure, better than Drake and Future.
Friday – Gladys Knight And The O’Jays – Taking the love train to Georgia.
Friday – Sheila E – Sony Hall – The great drummer
There is just a lot to love
the sound seemed to erupt from every side of the room
still on top
“danceable music for the end of days”
contracts its world in Nashisms
let’s take what we are offered
It’s the music, stupid
a restless and fearless freak show
