Live Through This: rock nyc Concert Picks Week Of November 14th, 2016

I haven’t seen Richard Thompson in way too long and have always, more or less, admired him immensely even though I thought he peaked in the 1970s with ex-Linda. With Greg Allman bailing from his City Winery stand due to illness, City Winery got two nights this week, Wednesday and Friday. I’m going Wednesday for an “All Request” show. I hope he plays “The Ghost Of You Walks”.

Monday – Clean Bandit – Irving Plaza – Strings plus EDM, the new single is a bit hit in the UK… of course so are all the other songs.

Monday – BUDWEISER ONE NIGHT ONLY: RASCAL FLATTS – The Theatre At MSG – Because what says the season better than beer and Christmas songs by a very ordinary though not drastically bad country band.

Tuesday – Set the Boy Free – A Conversation with Johnny Marr – Gramercy Theatre – Maybe he’ll explain why he won’t cut his hair?

Tuesday – Stephen Saban Benefit W/ Lamf, Deborah Harry & More! – The Marlin Room at Webster Hall – That the great former Details columnist needs a benefit to help pay for his pancreatic cancer treatment is criminal.

Thursday – A Conversation With Linda Ronstadt – Tilles Center Concert Hall – Wow, really? News to me. A must see if you can get to Brookville.

Friday – Get On Up: A James Brown Celebration – NJPAC – Yeah I know, but have you seen the line up? Bettye Lavette and Sharon Jones only is a good reason to take it seriously.

Saturday – Swet Shop Boys, Humeysha – The Studio At Webster Hall – I’m out of town, but I would pay anything to see this. Swet Shop Boys are a superb rap duo -catch em before Trump has em deported.

Saturday – Keith Urban – ripCORD World Tour 2016 – Barclay Center – I wasn’t crazy about his last two albums, but he is terrific live.
