If all you know is “Lights Out”, you are just starting with one of our great pop dance soul fusion artist, the incomparable Santigold, who is performing at Hammerstein Ballroom on Saturday. Santigold is like Janelle Monae without the preciousness and with greater pop chops.
Monday – Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band: The River Tour – Barclay Center – Working its way into the history books as one of his greatest tours ever.
Tuesday – Freddie Gibbs with Special Guest Young M.A. – Highline Ballroom – He once had the potential to be one of the greats, but he is a little too samey to last on serious Gangsta rap, but his albums are never bad and I hear he is a good live performer.
Wednesday – Julien Baker – Bowery Ballroom – Her album was terrific, better than just about every other Lilith with tired eyes.
Friday – Bob Mould, Ted Leo (Solo) – Webster Hall – The new Mould album is excellent, and though Ted Leo comes across as unconscionably smug for no reason, blame it on proximity to Aimee Mann and check em out any way.
Friday – Parker Millsap – Bowery Ballroom – I liked the album fine though it has worn off a little, at least it wasn’t written to his unborn child.
Saturday – Pete Davidson Live Comedy Taping – NYU Skirball Center for the Performing Arts – SNL not ready for Prime Time yet, but soon, is the poster boy for Millennium comedians.
Saturday – Elliphant – The Marlin Room at Webster Hall – I predicted big things from this Robyn disciple for 2015, so I was off by a year.
Sunday – Pearl Jam – Madison Square Garden – I’m going on the Monday but either day…
Sunday – Bunny Wailer – BB Kings – The definition of a living legend.
