Would Prince have approved of Wendy and Lisa going on the road and performing his material? Well, would Prince have approved of one single thing that has happened to his catalog since his passing? I think we all know the answer to that but that’s the thing about being dead: your opinions matter a boatload less. So I will be making my way to BB King’s on Friday to watch the Revolution do nothing very thrilling to Prince songs.
Monday – Chris Brown: The Party Tour – Barclay Center – Brown is an asshole but a good dancer, Fabolous is a top top top rapper and live performer.
Tuesday – Saturday – John Pizzarelli – Cafe Carlyle – He ain’t his daddy but he is sure good enough.
Thursday, Friday, Saturday – Michael Che – Caroline’s Comedy Club Yeah, I’ve heard all the stuff about Che but he is superb on Weekend Update -easily the best thing about SNL, and he has a deadpan to die for.
Friday – Brian Wilson presents Pet Sounds: The Final Performances – Brian Wilson, Al Jardine, Blondie Chaplin – NJPAC – If you’re gonna compose an album as great as Pet Sounds, feel free to perform it on stage to the day you die. And feel free to watch it as often as you can.
Saturday – Highline Ballroom 10th Anniversary Celebration – Feat. Laurie Anderson – Lou Reed opened the pleasant enough room (if you can hang at the bar or the first balcony it is ace for sitelines), so it’s apt that Laurie is the big star of the celebration. I would pay money to hear Lou asking Laurie out for the first time.
