Live Through This: rock nyc Best Concerts For The Week Of April 6th, 2017

img_2091

I missed Maria Taylor last time around but I won’t make the same mistake twice. Her current album, In The Next Life, has darker hues but is quite as lovely as her masterpiece, 2013’s Something About Knowing. Around about that time, Maria was discussing quitting but fortunately she decided to start her own record label instead and while a one off concert in New York on her way abroad does not constitute a tour, I’ll take it. Taylor is performing at Rockwood 2, a terrific venue by the way, doors are at six, show is at seven, on Saturday.

Wednesday – Code Orange, Youth Code, Nicole Dollanganger, Vein, Jukai – The Marlin Room At Webster Hall – Top hardcore band, try em.

Thursday – Jerry Seinfeld: The Homestand! – The Beacon Theatre – I haven’t seen Jerry once on this homestand, I wonder if he is getting Trump-y!

Thursday – Outernational, Rebelmatic, Bachslider, Jam No Peanut, DJ Sonidero Mixt – The Bowery Electric – rock nyc favorites are agitprop and powerful and must be furiously angry and will show it.

Friday – Talib Kweli, Styles P, K’valentine – Highline Ballroom – The great rapper from the 90s, still killing it in the 2010s.

Friday – Freestyle & Old School Extravaganza – Radio City Music Hall – FYI: Stevie B,Lisa Lisa, Rakim, TKA, Information Society,
Jungle Brothers, Black Sheep, George Lamond, Judy Torres, DJ Kool, Shannon, Coro, Noel, Giggles,David Torres, Lisette Melendez, Marshall Jefferson, Strafe…. WOW!

Saturday – The 70’s Soul Jam Valentines Concert – I don’t know which original members are their and which aren’t HOWEVER, I don’t care because IT’S THE STYLISTICS… At 3PM!

Saturday – Drive-By Truckers, Kyle Craft – The Webster Hall – The new album is excellent but I’ve never liked em live…

Saturday – Marc Anthony – Prudential Center – Latin American super heartthrob, and if you haven’t seen him he is terrific on stage.

Saturday – Patti Labelle – Kings Theatre – Lady Marmalade is the r&B queen and the best Labelle always…
