Live Review: Randy Edelman @ The City Winery Kicking Off The “Pretty Girls” Tour 8/28/22 in New York City

He plays like a man who’s soul is on fire, burning brightly within and desiring fiercely to break the bonds of this physical world, tearing away the gravity that holds him to earth. Yet like the flame of a candle after composer Randy Edelman performs his celestial dance it falls back illuminating this world and continuously leaving his mark on humanity.

Performing to a sold-out audience the prelude is a tour de force kicking off the show with several songs recorded earlier in his musical journey. With his career-spanning extravaganza Randy featured the songs the people came to hear, “A Weekend in New England” (recorded by Barry Manilow), “You” (recorded by The Carpenters), “The Laughter and the Tears” (recorded by Dionne Warwick), “The Woman on Your Arm” (recorded by Bing Crosby), and “Uptown Uptempo Woman” a huge hit recorded by Randy Edelman.

And then came his film soundtrack medleys…..the comedies: “My Cousin Vinny”, “While You Were Sleeping”, “Billy Madison”, “Beethoven“,….. and then history’s playlist: “Last of the Mohicans”, “Gettysburg”, “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story”….all a masterful display of some of the greatest music ever written.

Then all of a sudden the crowd reached for their phones as Randy presented his exhilarating new release “Pretty Girls” a glowing ember of lyrical genius and musical elation. The song remixed and re-recorded was originally released in 1982 and as many of Randy’s songs from that era….way ahead of its time. “Pretty Girls” released only a week ago has already skyrocketed to popularity and will be released as part of the soundtrack to the new motion picture thriller The Beast Inside.”

Randy Edelman can often be defined by his own reinvention cutting himself out of stone like Mount Rushmore the patriotic tribute to the United States. As the 8th Wonder of the World Randy is a fearless adventurer fulfilling his destiny and is a true American Treasure.
