Let’s Active: rock nyc Concert Picks Week Of December 14th, 2015

Not just a  band from East LA, I’m a longtime fan,  first time viewer  of top notch Latin American legendary rock band Los Lobos. With a great new album (finally available for streaming) Gates Of Gold to push, and a huge back catalog and only “Will The Wolf Survive” is a shoo in, They are performing at City Winery on Saturday.

Monday – Sleater Kinney – Irving Plaza – At the kick start of 2015, they were at the worst concert I’ve ever seen, performing what was apparently a great set at Terminal 5, which because of my height (though I’m not that short), I missed completely, and ended up viewing on monitors. I swore off T5, not SK.

Monday – Steve Earle W/ Jackson Browne, Justin Townes Earle, & The Mastersons – The Town Hall – After an atrocious performance at this very venue a coupla years ago, and a series of crappy albums, I swore off Earle forever. However, Jackson Browne will be there and so will his son so…

Tuesday – India Arie – Christmas with Friends w.special guest Jonathan McReynolds – Gramercy Theatre – Last time I saw this soulful woman she was singing with Stevie Wonder at MSG last year. Should be a real treat.

Wednesday – Jerry Lee Lewis – BB Kings – I saw him last time he performed here and yes, he is old. You only get 30 minutes for something like $125. But if you can afford it, go pay your respects… he is still the Killer.

Thursday, Friday – Bayside – Gramercy Theatre – As local as local can be, the punky Queens boys have been doing it for fifteen years and deserve our love.

Thursday –  Billy Joel – In Concert – Madison Square Garden – Sometime in June he will be hitting his 30th  gig… I wouldn’t mind going again, it would be my third in the run.

Friday – Foals – Terminal 5 – What Went Down didn’t break em the way it was meant to over here, and it wasn’t as good as its best moments.

Friday –  Deadmau5, Pusha T, Justine Skye, The Cold Seas, Slonk Donkerson – This is the Tidal gig, and while I would rather go to T5 then see Deadmau5, still if Pusha T is performing a full set go and  just leave early.

Friday – Luis Miguel – MSG – One of Latin pop’s biggest stars.

Friday – Perfect Pussy – MHOW – Five days after opening for Sleater Kinner, the excellent punk rockers headline their own gig.

Friday – The Marshall Tucker Band – BB Kings – Southern rockers at BB Kings… well, the Allman Brothers have gone so…

Friday – Buster Poindexter – The Town Hall – Should be hot hot hot.

Friday – : New Edition, Tyrese, Jaheim, Monica, Patti LaBelle – Prudential Centre – I’m not crazy about Tyrese or Jaheim, but Monica is always a treat, Patti is a legend and if Bobby Brown was back with New Edition, I would go.

Saturday – Bobby Brown – BB Kings – Speaking of Bobby, if New Edition were with him, etc.

Saturday – An evening with Todd Rundgren – Gramercy Theatre – Still a wizard and a true star.

Sunday –  A DARLENE LOVE CHRISTMAS – “Love for the Holidays” – Bb Kings – Her current album may well be the biggest disappointment of the year, but  she was great here last year plus, what price “Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)”?
