Two days ago, I wrote about a new lawsuit involving members of a local group, Mystic Braves, one of the bands that were ‘canceled’ last year after a multitude of accusations were made public on social media. The accusations were very diverse and a large number of women made serious accusations regarding plenty of musicians: posts on social media were describing grooming, sexual assaults, and even rape.
Members of the Mystic Braves were among the musicians accused of molestation and sexual assault, and in the new lawsuit, called empowermentlalawsuit, they are defending themselves. They claim to have been the victims of a conspiracy designed to ruin their careers through false claims of abuse. The lawsuit, which is public record, since you can easily find it on the internet, was naming several people: Kathleen Triplett, the girlfriend of Shane Stotsenberg, the lead guitarist of the Mystic Braves, and Claudia Varoujan, who was/is behind numerous Instagram accounts making the accusations.
In my post, I was reporting about the lawsuit, which not only claims the Instagram posts were ‘relentless slanderous allegations of abuse and harassment without evidence or proof,’ but also mentions a physical attack of Triplett by Varoujan during a 4th of July party.
I was also commenting on the abuse allegations, based on the reading of this avalanche of accusations that invaded social media last year. To me, some sounded completely frivolous, other ones sounded more serious. However, all the accusations were put under the same umbrella, without any nuance (as this has been the case since the beginning of the #metoo movement) leading to the sudden cancelation of the entire L.A. music scene.
Claudia Varoujan contacted me, accusing me of libel and I am once again writing about this to present her point of view. She claims she is the victim of the crime and says that she filed a police report because Kathleen Triplett is the one who attacked her during the 4th of July party.
I just wanted to present her claim, but my commentary was not about who attacked whom: I was not there, and I was just reporting what the lawsuit is stating. If these people are accusing each other of the worst – like in this thread on Reddit involving a nephew of a Mystic Braves’band member and empowermentlalawsuit – a physical attack was very probable. I have no way to know who initiated the attack and only wanted to present Varoujan’s point of view.
The commentary was made regarding all the accusations of abuse made last year, and how difficult it was to discern the truth. I don’t know if the accusations made against the Mystic Braves are true or not, but it’s very difficult to believe the entire L.A. music scene is made of rapists. As I said in my first post, a deluge of more or less sketchy accusations is not serving the right cause and truly discredits the real victims of abuse and rape.
