Last Call: Final Songs On New Album Releases 10-30-15 – 11-5-15

It’s A Small world – We Love Disney Artists – The poor sods from Ne Yo to Kacey Musgraves who performed some first rate, and many third tier, Disney songs on the current piece of self-congratulation, all get together for a song that only really works at the theme park – C-

Fighting For – Roots Manuva – I love this guy’s voice, he makes the East End sound as cool as Bed Stuy, and he has a chip on his shoulder and dares you to knock to off – B+

Tom Sawyer/You Know Where You Can me – Laura Stevenson – No, not that Tom Sawyer, no not that one either. Laura’s problem is she has a slight voice and try as she likes, she can’t fight gravity. The bigger the song, the harder the fall – C+

All For Nothing – Kirk Knight – Pro Era posse member breaks out but has his doubts to bring him back home – B

If I Can Dream – Elvis Presley and Royal Philharmonic Orchestra – Forty years and any sense of decency separate Elvis and the orchestra – F

Oh! Starving – Car Seat Headrest – Killer closer, inverts all that hip hop bragging with a smart melody a great coda and… “I used to enjoy losing money but now all I do is win and now it’s far too easy to be satisfied with things. I used to enjoy being worried but now everything is fine, I wish I could go back to that unhappier time…” This is the third time they’ve recorded this track and it is easy to hear why – A-

Dirty Lights – Beach Slang – More of the same and the same is good – B+

Nuummite – Abigail Williams –The Sorcerer’s Stone itself, and this is yet another beautiful track of roaring and subdued guitars, a fine song – B+
