Last Call: Final Songs Off New Albums 4-22-16 – 4-28-16

Fisher Bones – Wire – Why do Wire sound so much like Lou Reed? A sort of tired art rock overstatement, with a bad vibe one loner adding up to nothing much – C

Farewell (Sonnet 87) – Anna Prohaska – The tremendous Austrian coloratura soprano, is stunning on the last song of Rufus’ terrific new album – A

Lost In The Moment – NF, Jonathan Thulin – My token white rapper, spits it hard. He sounds so much like a mix of young and middle aged Eminem – B+

Honey Outro – Katy B – Dreary ending, the album is all over the place as well, but this track is a bore that sinks without a trace of a memory – C+

We’ve Only Just Begun – Dami Im – She has such a cool and sweet touch, there is a sense of self restraint and credit to the great Karen Carpenter. Even the orchestration is light on its feet –especially the punctuated horns that sound more 60s than 70s – B+

Father – B-fade – The one great similarity between Gangsta and Christian rap, is that they are all pussies under the skin – C

Grandma – A$AP Ferg – This might be a little stuck in the Madonna half of Madonna or whire, but it is so sincere and so refreshing, you can’t help but forgive him – A-
