This is a very busy week, and to sum this up: too many shows, and no time!
On Monday 11th, the residencies are hot as always with Moons of Mars at the Bootleg theater with Rad Horror, Jimmy LaValle (The Album Leaf) and James McAlister (Planetarium), Jesse Jo Stark is at the Echo with Tashaki Miyaki, Ruby Haunt, and Laura Jean Anderson, New Language is at the Satellite with Holy Wars, Dysplay, and Ether Feather, and the Entire Universe is at Zebulon with Billy Changer, Numb.er, Mothdrops.
On Tuesday 12th, surfer songwriter Jack Johnson is at the Grammy Museum, the Indigo Girls are at the Theater at Ace Hotel, Marshal Crenshaw Y Los Straitjackets is at the Echo with RJ Bloke, Young Jesus has a record release party with Goon, Media Jewerler and SLUGS at the Echoplex, Ian Hunter & the Rant Band are at the Teragram with Scott McCaughey and Yo Yo Ma plays Bach at the Hollywood Bowl.
On Wednesday 13th, legends Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood & Mavis Staples are respectively at the Forum and the Hollywood Bowl, Goo Goo Dolls are at the Greek Theater with Phillip Phillips, The Magpie Salute (members of the Black Crows) are at the Fonda Theater, Cigarettes After Sex play two sold out shows at the Teragram Ballroom (they are also there on Thursday), and there is a Chris Cornell tribute at the Viper Room.
On Thursday 14, Against Me is at the Fonda Theater with Bleached and The Dirty Nil, Daryl Hall and John Oates are rescheduling their show at the Staples Center with Tears For Fears, young electronic artist Whethan is at the El Rey theater with Bearson and Opia, Alice Glass plays a sold-out show at the Echo, and Ex-Vampire Weekend Rostam has a show and signing at Amoeba.
On Friday 15th, The Church are at the Fonda Theatre with the Helio Sequence, Eric Clapton plays his second show at the Forum, Daryl Hall and John Oates play their second show at the Staples with Tears For Fears, James Supercave plays the Teragram Ballroom with the Palms, HEALTH and Eli Glad, Together Pangea are at the El Rey Theater with Tall Juan, Side Eyes & Daddy issues, and Frankie and the Witch Fingers has a record release party at the Echo with Pow!, and The Mad Walls.
On Saturday 16th, Green Day are playing at the Rose Bowl Stadium, but you can also see Pete Townshend’s Classic Quadrophenia’ performed by Townshend, Billy Idol and Alfie Boe at the Greek Theater, Eric Clapton plays his third show at the Forum (he has a 4th one on Monday), City and Colour are at the Wiltern, Atlanta’s The Shadowboxers are at the El Rey Theater, Black Kids are at the Echoplex with Seratones, and LondonBridge, the mighty women of L7: Pretend We’re Dead are taking over the Regent Theater, Demi Levato is at the Grammy Museum, and there is a Rock to Recovery 2017 Benefit Concert with Kings of Chaos (musicians from bands including Guns N’ Roses, Stone Temple Pilots, Velver Revolver, Billy Idol,…) at the Fonda Theater, to honor rock legends Corey Taylor (Slipknot/Stone Sour) and Wayne Kramer (MC5).
On Sunday 17th,, Café Tacvba, La Santa Cecilia and Mon Laferte are at the Hollywood Bowl, Jason Isbell and the 400 Unit with Frank Turner and the Sleeping Souls are at the Orpheum Theater, Tijuana Panthers are at the Regent Theater with Slothrust, Mourn and Dude York, Monsieur Perine is at the Echoplex, and the dangerous women of Ex Stains are at the Hi Hat with Cat Scan and Red Channel.
