L.A. BURNING: WEST COAST CONCERT PICKS, May 29th To June 4th, 2017

Ryan Adams will be playing at the Greek

This week, there are many bands playing that I have never seen or even heard about… it’s difficult to recommend an act you don’t know, but it may be a good week to discover tons of new bands!

Monday May 29th, the residencies will continue and end for this month, with the album release party of Barrows with Starving Daughters, Clear, Hex Horizontal at the Echo, and The Diamond Light, Wildling, Water Slice, good snake at the Satellite. Calvin Love will also bring one last time his expansive pop songs at the Bootleg theater with Korey Dane, NO WIN and Jacky Winter.

On Tuesday May 30th, Bjork is singing with the LA philharmonic at the Walt Disney Concert Hall, but alas, tickets did sell out almost instantaneously, so unless you want to spend about $400 on StubHub, there is no chance for me and you.

At the Satellite, my favorite dark orphan rocker, Holy Wars (who is playing at a different location almost every week in LA) will enchant the Satellite with Battle Tapes and Rococode

The Mynabirds will bring their comforting and soothing soundscapes at the Masonic Lodge at Hollywood Forever, Oh Land is headlining the night.

And there’s another record release party at the Echo: Sean Gadd, a founding member of the platinum selling US pop band, Grouplove, is trying a solo career. Cillie Barnes, Alyeska will also perform.

Wednesday May 31st, The Mountain Goats are at the Mayan theater. I saw them a long time ago, during the early days of the FYF fest, and I remember a very funny and entertaining set.

Two artists I saw at Amoeba are playing at the Bootleg theater this same night, Miranda lee Richards is releasing her album ‘Existential Beast’ with the help of Gospelbeach,.. be prepared for a very psychedelic folksy night. Purple Mountains Majesties and Maesa are also playing.

On Friday June 2nd, Wavves is playing a sold out show at the Teragram Ballroom, with So Stressed, Kino Kimino. Last time I saw these crazy fuzzy rockers, there was a riot, I ran on the stage to avoid to be crushed, so good luck for those who will be stuck against the stage at the Teragram.

It’s a punk Hollyweird night at the Echo with LA punk icon The Weirdos with Dirty & His Fists, The Wolly Bandits.

On Saturday June 3rd, Ryan Adams will rock the Greek Theater with cuts of his new album ‘Prisoner’ and a very special guest Karen Elson. Expect a lot of ranting between the music, because Ryan Adams is a taker.

On Sunday June 4th, it will be Elvis Costello’s turn to rock the same Greek place with his Imposters

Tigers Jaw will be back to celebrate their new record at the Regent with Smidley. and the impredictable punk originals, Saintseneca, which will surely play their stompy folk songs.

Finally I can’t recommend Goon enough, I saw them a few weeks ago and they had real Nirvana-esque riffs wrapped inside stormy and grungy songs… they are playing at the Hi Hat with Dead Soft, Young Jesus and YESES.
