Of Miles
Tune into KPFK’s “Evolution Of The Groove” this Friday (April 5) at 7 p.m. PST with host Vince Wilburn, Jr., who welcomes Micah Nelson, frontman of Particle Kid and his bassist Jeff Smith. A talented visionary artist and iconoclastic musician, Nelson creates Folk-a-Delic Forest-Funk Space-Punk Avant-Pop Psych-Rock Dope-Scapes. With his future folk project Particle Kid, he is exploring the symbiosis of light/sound/vibration, striving to discover new emotions through various forms of expression and seeking to touch the outer reaches of the synesthetic experience. He comes from a lineage of musical and cultural pioneers, growing up with father Willie Nelson and his brother Lukas Nelson.
Particle Kid played at Miles Davis House at SXSW this year, which was hosted by Wilburn, Jr. and his cousin Erin Davis (son of Miles Davis). Willie Nelson and Miles Davis shared the same manager, Mark Rothbaum, which connected these two iconic families.
Nelson will talk about ‘why’ the groove matters.
In the spirit of Miles, “Evolution Of The Groove” is a free form, progressive platform that covers a multitude of genres and topics, designed to keep the cultural conversation moving forward. Wilburn, Jr. takes a deep dive into music, art and culture with no genre boundaries, the first three Friday’s of each month from 7 p.m. – 8 p.m. PST on KPFK Radio 90.7 FM in Los Angeles and online at www.kpfk.org.
The title “Evolution Of The Groove” is taken from a 2007 Miles Davis re-mix EP featuring Nas and Santana, which Wilburn, Jr. is a producer on. Davis, widely noted as one of the most innovative musicians of all time, is the uncle and musical mentor of Wilburn, Jr. Check out the theme song here.
It’s where the groove matters.
