Jimmy Iovine Thinks It’s Difficult To Find Music For Women

Jimmy Iovine

Jimmy Iovine, the co-founder of Interscope Records, and Beats Electronics was discussing Apple Music on CBS This Morning with Mary J. Blige. Since Beats Electronics was purchased by Apple a year ago, Iovine has helped sell the new streaming service to the public, staying an important man in the business… May be, but some very important people can say something completely dumb and condescending! Talking about a new ad directed by Selma’s Ava DuVernay and starring Kerry Washington, Taraji P. Henson, and Mary J. Blige, three women hanging out together while listening to their favorite tunes on Apple Music… the script ‘Instant boyfriend mixtape service’ appears on screen at the end, and this is apparently the service that Iovine was selling on CBS This Morning, but what came out of this mouth had the potential to alienate half of the earth population:

‘So I always knew that women find it very difficult at times – some women – to find music. And this helps makes it easier with playlists, curated by real people. They’re not made by algorithms alone – they’re made by algorithms but with a human touch.’

Jeez! Because I need some crazy algorithm made by ‘real people’ to find my music? Does this guy think before talking? Does he really think women are this dumb and need assistance for finding music? But he continued:
‘I just thought of a problem, you know: girls are sitting around, you know, talking about boys. Or complaining about boys, you know, when they’re heartbroken or whatever. And they need music for that, right? So it’s hard to find the right music, you know. Not everybody has the right lists, or knows a DJ or something.’

Shut up, just shut up Iovine, because, at this point, I could become vulgar. Sure, ‘boys’ are women’s only subject of conversation, especially when they are above 40 like Blige. Who is watching this morning show anyway? Mostly women, stuck at home with small kids, who could live without Iovine’s condescending… he had, of course, released a statement to apologize:

‘We created Apple Music to make finding the right music easier for everyone — men and women, young and old. Our new ad focuses on women, which is why I answered the way I did, but of course the same applies equally for men. I could have chosen my words better, and I apologize.’

I have news for Apple, I hate, hate to be told what to listen to, read or watch, so this will never work for me.
