It’s The End Of The World As We Know It

Maybe 30 years ago I was a futurist, I believed two steps forward, one step back, but always towards some form of super planet where everything is how it always should be. I mean, if the dinosaurs ruled the planet for 165 Million years couldn’t we do better than somewhere between 50,000K years and 7000k years. If dinosaurs had the brain size of an overeager peanut, why is the human race heading straight to mass suicide while it took an act of god to rid the planet of dinosaurs.

The truth is, humans are in an internal battle between its instinct and its intellect and its instinct seems to have won. We are so self-destructive that we can be warned our brains are going to fry and we will all die and we ignore it. We are smart enough to start our instinction but not smart enough to prevent it.

My bet? Global warming will get us, but I’ll be dead, or close as damn it, by then. So how do I care? Can any of us be empathetic for a future we have no part in. Should we cut back on our increasingly rare joy to help a future that may never arrive?

But that’s just the tip of the melting iceberg.

With fascists dictators abounding and easy access to nuclear weapons you are left with a clear thought: Russia and North Korea seem bound to start a world war and very potential final solution and if Putin has cancer why not take us with him?

Meanwhile in the States, decades of fighting for equal rights for women, blacks, any ethnics, transgender folks, minorities, and woman and girls are being forced to keep fetuses they don’t want. The difference between liberals and conservatives is so huge it is as though the hours are ticking by to a civil war.

Perhaps this isn’t true if you were gay or a person of color, but that notwithstanding the 1970s were a golden age and the 2020s are an extended nightmare: it starts with the pandemic and right now, in New York City, we are looking at 40% occupancy in city buildings. We didn’t go back to work. The rich get richer, the middle class get poorer and New York City is heading for an urban disaster with the mean streets getting grubbier and more dangerous…
