Iron Maiden To Use Their Own Boeing To Tour The World

I can’t lie, Iron Maiden is not a band I listen to, but they have been around forever and they are touring like crazy. Just check out this giant world tour of them scheduled for this year. They are going everywhere, North America, South America, Japan, China, New Zealand, Australia, Europe, South Africa… from February to August, these guys never rest and this is truly impressive.

When you think about it, this represents a lot of flights, and a lot of time spent in planes… so to make things easier, Iron Maiden has decided to get their own Boeing 747 jumbo jet, piloted by lead singer Bruce Dickinson.

We are talking about metal superstars of the 21 century after all, bands used to travel in their own van or bus, but we are in 2016, so why not a jumbo jet Dickinson is a real pilot, who has been flying since 1990, he was a qualified pilot for British airline Astraeus, and was even ‘behind the controls of a Boeing 747 that the Ministry of Defense had chartered to transport a group of RAF pilots back home.

‘As we initially announced we’ll be using Ed Force One right around the world as usual but also including the first few shows in Europe this time, making this the first time EF1 has visited Europe on tour!’ can be read on Iron Maiden’s website.

‘However after the Swedish show at Gothenburg Ullvei Stadium on June 17 we’ll be reverting to our traditional truck & bus touring methods as logistically this makes much more sense considering the lesser distances involved and airport parameters.’

Can you go more metal than this? Traveling around the world aboard your own plane, piloted by your own singer! The seating capacity (more than 300) seems a bit excessive for a band of six and its entourage, and the cost of flying this thing around the world also looks quite expensive to me – the estimation given by someone is above $12300 per hour! – but what do I know about planes? May be they are even saving some money overall.

Anyway it looks like the most epic, badass, rockstar way to tour the world.
