Iggy Azalea: ‘That Beyonce Becky-Line is Reverse-Racism’

If Beyonce’s new album started a lot of controversy about her marriage, I hadn’t thought about this new one,… started by rapper Iggy Azalea. First of all, I thought Iggy Azalea had quit Twitter? I suppose it’s too tempting for millennials and they never quit for very long. So Iggy said on Twitter she did not want to be called ‘a Becky’, a reference to Beyonce’s now famous line: ‘Becky with the good hair’, in her new album ‘Lemonade’. If everyone has an idea about who is this Becky, a woman? several women? A made-up character to sell an album, which didn’t need this kind of publicity in the first place? Iggy has another thing in mind. Iggy doesn’t cares about Jay Z cheating on Beyonce, she only cares about what she calls a ‘stereotypical name for a race’. In a series of tweets, she expressed her anger:

‘Don’t ever call me a Becky.’

‘Do you know how many time ppl have called me BECKY? it didnt have any kind of positive intention behind it. don’t start’

‘Generalizing ANY race by calling them one stereotypical name for said race. i personally dont think is very cool, the end’

‘Dont call all asian women ‘ming lee’ dont call white women ‘becky’ dont call black women ‘sha nay nay’…

‘To be called a generalized name that gained popularity as a way to describe oral sex and then generally white women. no thanks.’

‘No shade on Bey, but her lyric is an example of reverse-racism!’

Iggy took a lot of hate from the Beyhive and beyond, for this insane idea that she should be the offended one in the Becky controversy,… So did she go too far? Did she hijack a controversy to bring back the attention to herself? Yes, yes and yes. I bet she had to go very far for this one, as far as the urban dictionary, which refers to Becky as a blowjob done by a white female. So Iggy uses the urban dictionary, and she gets offended for a vague caucasian reference in a made-up dictionary? How many times does she say the n-word in her songs by the way? A quick look at her tweet feed catches her using stereotypes after stereotypes, which shows how un-delicate, how problematic ,how ignorant her use of certain words is. She is the last person who should go feel offended because of a Becky.
