Governor Ball’s 2023 Lineup June 9th – June 11th, Reviewed (better than 2022, not as good as the epic 2021)

If you have been worrying about returning, and not been crazy about the lineup last year, make the pilgrimage to Flushing Meadows for the 2023 lineup of artists which happens to be pretty good. 2022 was not a good year (here), the worst since before Fiona Apple changed the landscape in 2012.

Anyway – here is the annotated artist list

Friday, June 9:
Lizzo – I just saw her at Jingle Ball and won’t wait around but if you haven’t you certainly should

Lil Uzi Vert – go for his audience who adore they and blew the house down last time I saw them here. LUV is better than you think

HAIM – they got on stage past 10pm at MSG -the fools.

Omar Apollo
Kim Petras – I saw her opening for Troye Silvan at Radio City and she has come up since then, the song with Sam Smith has made her a big star

Eladio Carrión
Joey Bada$$ – Joey is the Rosanne Cash of hip hop, never leaving up to his skillset

070 Shake – a terrific rapper and Ye find with two terrific albums under her belt

Tai Verdes
Alexander 23
PJ Morton
Maxo Kream – the great rapper returns

Matt Maltese
School of Rock Queens

Saturday, June 10:
ODESZA – the electronic dance duo faves, I’ll take the Chainsmokers but thanks

Lil Baby – I’ve been gaging to see him for years, this is huge

aespa – I was wondering when K-Pop would make an appearance

Rina Sawayama – J-Pop singer songwriter fave

Oliver Tree
Finneas – can he do ANYTHING without his sister?

Kenny Beats – the producer goes solo, the single is great

Koffee – reggae star

Snail Mail – she was great live a coupla years ago and you wouldn’t think the lesbian singer songwriter would be

Amber Mark
Syd – The Internet star returns, can you give Steve Lacey a run for her money

Suki Waterhouse
Sarah Kinsley
The Amazons

Sunday, June 11:
Kendrick Lamar – he really wasn’t that great at Barclays last year

Lil Nas X – a must see, he was a live bomb last time I saw him

Sofi Tukker
Pusha T – those are those who believe his last album was his best, I prefer the one with Ye

girl in red – all but reinvented the lesbian confessional for Tik Tok

Central Cee – grime star from London

Black Midi – mathematic UK band, I’ve been trying to catch em for years.

Sabrina Claudio
Phony Ppl
Cat Burns – a one hit wonder who joins the back women changing UK pop for more than an album

Maude Latour
Coast Contra
Charlie Burg
Ella Jane
Haiku Hands
School of Rock Brooklyn
