Going Steady: New Singles reviewed 6-10-16 – 6-16-16

angelolsen_2

Intern – Angel Olsen – Two years ago, Angel was a fresh if depressed new voice for quasi folkie singer songwriter women post-Lilith Fest gals, two years later this isn’t fresh at all, it is a depressing mining of a mini tsunami of pissed off women on drugs – C

Rabbit Hole – Blink 182 – So now we know what Blink 182 have lost, all their character and personality. This is a bland piece of crap, it sounds like a million other bands – C

East Coast Girl – Butch Walker – The Ryan Adams meets father John Misty wannabe of your dreams, he adds nothing but good stuff Americana, the bubble yummy intro soon gives way to a Nails like spoken bit, and then back to howling Mistyish bridge – B-

Saw It Coming – G Easy, Jeremih – G Easy is hip hop for young people who want to rebel against their parents and so chose the lamest rapper alive… still the chorus is catchy – C+

Bury It – Chvrches  Hayley Of Paramore – Wow, this fucking sucks. What happened to this band, I mean I was never close to a friend but at least I took them seriously…  – D

We Turn Red – Red Hot Chili Peppers – A clumsy and boring “Rock On” rip off… – C-

Rule Number One – Sleigh Balls – Sounds like metal, bad metal, a real shocker of a dog, actually it sounds like metal played by the Kills  -D+

Crash – Usher – Incredible, years and years and years for this? A terrible r&b track, lousy falsetto harmonies. The beat is fresh if slow – C+
