Going Steady: New Singles reviewed 4-7-17 – 4-13-7

East Coast – A$AP Ferg and Remy Ma – A goodie from one of our top local talents, Ferb is on fire and spitting hard, the backing track is kinda scary and so is Remy who cackles with the best of them -a real goodie – B+

Last Time For Everything – Brad Paisley – Instant nostalgia seems to be the subject matter of his upcoming album, this slice of it sucks ecept for a pretty sweet guitar solo – C+

Fire – Beth Ditto – World class disco with a bass hook that walks the damn song and shuts the door behind it and a singer so great she woulda been huge in the mid-70s – A-

Thank God I Got It – Desiigner – He hasn’t been up to anything much since the terrific ” “Tiimmy Turner,” and this sucker is tepid and then some. Still, I like his voice – C

Up – Desiigner – Apparently releasing twosingles at the same time is the new releasing one single at the same time. This is a disappointed snoozer – C-

Century – Feist, Jarvis Cocker – Cockers second dog appearance, this sucker starts off lively then goes all Scott Walker – C

Unforgettable – French Montana, Swa Lee – Forgettable

Now Or never – Halsey – Never, these modern alty poppy girls are bi-polar bores unless they are singing with the Chainsmokers – C+

Sign of The Times – Harry Styles – the slowest, most boring piece of crap… instead of getting Four Directions, we’ve gotten Zayn and three has beens – C

Battle Cry – Jack White – Hey, it is Jack’s label and if he wants to waste his and out time, so be it on this rowdy instrumental handclapping piece of generic White rock so be it  – C

Start Over – Musiq Soulchild – Business as usual alt-R&B if it was 2004 – C+

Progress – Public Broadcasting Service – Sounds like Cabaret Voltaire with a better back beat but half the imagination – C+

Me Enamore – Shakira – Ho hum salsa dance track, I expect better from her – C+

Last Ones – Talib Kweli And Styles P – Talib was real good on the ATCQ album and quite awesome here as well, with the almost estimable Styles Q -who would be bigger if he stayed outta jail, on this dark beauty of a track – B+

Fish N Grits – Wale, Travis $cott – Helen swears by Travis, but I liked him more circa Rodeo and he has slackened in the past year. This one with Wally Wales, is up to nothing – C

Stay – Zedd and Alessia cara – So sweet it could give ya diabetes just by looking at you – B
