Going Steady: New Singles Reviewed 4-15-16 – 4-21-16

Strive – A$AP Ferg, Missy Elliott – Elliott steals yet another track and this time not from somebody willing to give it up, her verse is so great, it is a different brilliant spit out hard verse that lifts the entire song on its shoulders. Seriously, it is time for a Missy Elliott album – B+

Ain’t No Man – The Avett Brothers – Gosh, I can’t take this guys verse. It stomps, it plonks, it folks itself. Hope you enjoy the sound of Woodstock – C

I Remember – Alunageorge – A week after the best week for singles all year, the sometimes great Alunageorge are monumentally irritating and twee track, like some poster, Arianna Grande for instance, without the voice – C

Amerika – Young The Giant – Dreadful indie rock folk with a K – C-

I Love You – Meghan Trainor, Lunchmoney Lewis – Lewis had a terrific breakthrough single last year and here he pushes Meghan after a handful of crap singles as hard as he can, on this world beating dance pop manifesto as soulful as get out. A bright return for all – B+

Fall Together – The Temper Tantrum – Haven’t heard from these guys in years, and now I know why. Dreadful alt rock folkie anthem -they’ve turned up the treble – C+

Playing With Fire – Jennifer Nettles –  Hard country rocking Jennifer, on this first rate hootenanny of a song… Wait a second, Jennifer Nettles?? – B+
