Going Steady: New Singles Reviewed 12-16-22 – 12-22-22

Blame It on the Mistletoe Christmassy 2022 (feat. Lawrence Rothman) – Amanda Shires – much better than it has ANY RIGHT to be, this addictive country Christmas track with the electronic wunderkind Rothman are in fine form… the chorus could’ve been better – B-

Car Keys (Gregg Turkington Remix) – Animal Collective – Gregg is a renaissance man more than capable of remixing as well as recording himself, Animal Collective have a great album out this year, and this is a straining sound sifter with a great hook – B+

LET GO – Central Cee – Central Cee rides roughshod over the chorus of Passenger’s “Let Her Go” and it cost him a fortune but his rap is very good – B

Losing You – FLO – 2023 Brit Award for Rising Star winners are straight ahead r&b with excellent harmonies – B

No Bad Days (featuring Jimmie Allen) – Flo Rida – nice mix of country and dancehallish rap – B

Strung Out Johnny – Iggy Pop – sounds like Richard Butler on a growly pre-punk sounding hard rocker – B-

Face 2 Face – Juice WRLD – the second single off the posthumous upcoming album is a “Lucid Dreams” soundalike… which is fine with me – B+

FUSH AND CHIPS – lilbubblegum – the TikTok star adds hyper-pop to hip hop and electronic drill rhythms – B

Set It – Popcaan – world class dancehall mixed with hip hop production on an ear candy of addictive proportions from the Jamaican star – B+

Santa Clause Wants Some Lovin’ – Sam Huber And The True Groove Allstars – wait till you hear the Finnish superstar wrap his lungs around “looovin’…” -SINGLE OF THE WEEK – A-

DESPECHÁ RMX – ROSALIA, Cardi B – from Rosalia’s polishing off the breakthrough with Cardi B adding a pretty ace verse to the deluxe add – B+
