Going Steady: New Singles Reviewed: 10-2-15 – 10-8-15

Good Good Father – Chris Tomlin – He is the leader of modern CCM and responsible for so much that is wrong with the genre and also sometimes good: the way it is like watching what you think is a straight movie on SHO only to realize the actors are faking intercourse for no good reason. That sounds like a slap down but actually, what I am saying is it sounds like mainstream Americana piano based ballad and while Chris overdoes it by the middle eight, and though the lyric is really lame, it is no worse than most thing and being Christian doesn’t change that one way or the other- C

Dancing (Again) – Eats Everything – This is addictive House by the UK DJ, made for dancing, should do well in England – B

Cold In Ohio – Jamie Lawson – Irish singer songwriter, just signed to Ed Sheeran’s label offers up a very pretty love ballad “and it’s warm here next to you”… nicely put – B+

Me And The Rhythm – Selena Gomez – Without an ounce of originality to its name, it is like Madonna circa Confessions only without Madonna, a manufactured pop blandness – C-

Wake Up – The Vamps – A biggie for these guys, the follow up to the 2014 multi million streamed pop break through is a faux-rock ballad for the tweens. clever horn hook but otherwise nothing much. Bu the time you reach the codam all handclaps and voices raised in unison, you get the feeling there isn’t much they won’t do to sell it  – C-

UFO – Timbaland – Featuring Tink and Future, this is timewarp circa 2006 hip hop pop, not the worst of time so very very dated, despite Future on the last verse. Has adultery ever been more boring? – C
