Going Steady: New Singles 2-19-16 – 2-25-16

Somebody Else – 1975 – Despite being the definition of a non believer, not an agnostic mind, this immensely irritating band have come up with a powerful electronic disco ballad, sounds like Holy Ghost! – B

Beautiful Lies – Birdy – Three years on, she is still in her teens but spreading her wings (sic) here on her co-written coming out party. There is a huge market for this stuff, fragile folkie prettiness, not me of course, but other people – B

Suffer – Charlie Puth – Pretty good, definitely the Vince Staples verse isn’t just stapled on – B

Good To Love – FKA Twigs – This is the most normal song she has ever written,it sounds like a mainstream move. That it works goes without saying, that it could’ve worked better is suggestive – B+

Confession – M. Ward – How can this guy have spent an entire career with exactly one great song to his name? Needless to say, this ain’t it – C-

The Heart Of Me – Miike Snow – They are playing Governors Ball so I would like to like their new stuff, this is pretty good dance -the bridge is good – B-

You Are My Sunshine (With Chris Stapleton) Morgane Stapleton – Wake me up when it’s over – C

Bad Man – Pitbull – A cast of millions, well Robin Thicke, Joe Perry and Travis Barker… so yeah Pitbull goes rock… Barker paddles those bongos pretty well – C

No Chill – Vin Mensa, Skrillex – I’ll say one thing for Krillex. He makes sounds that sound like nothing I’ve ever heard. Mensa is a talented fellow but you coulda fooled me here – C+

L.A. Girlz – Weezer – Sounds like a Pinkerton outtake – B+
