Going Steady; New Singles 11-17-23 – 11-23-23 Reviewed

Get Close – Ari Lennox – the Dreamville alumni with a lovely and understated piece of r&b balladeering – B+

Alma Mater – Bleachers – arty , indie Jack hooks up with Lana Del Rey on a fast asleep track – C-

Red Flags – Brittany Howard – the second song off her upcoming second solo album is a electronic, noise obstreperous, vaguely Nine Inch Nails as Americana track – B

DJ Play A Christmas Song – 7th Heaven Club Mix – Cher – yep, it’s that time of the year again and here Cher is aided by the EDM remix duo – B-

BONITA – Daddy Yankee – not bad at all reggaeton dance track but wait.. didn’t he just retire? – B+

Puppet – Dora Jar – electronic pop from the talented songwriter – B

The Glass – Foo Fighters – big ballad and it almost works – C

The Glass – H.E.R.- this is a much better take, H.E.R. performs it as a self-realization ode on a break-up track she sings the pants off – B+

Wrap Me Up – Jimmy Fallon, Meghan Trainor – Meghan is never better than when she unwraps her doo wop songs and this is a winner with Jimmy who has the right energy for it – B

100lbs of Summer – Lee “Scratch” Perry – from the upcoming posthumous album, Greentea Peng joins Perry on some gorgeous dub pop, it is like reggae looking out a door – SINGLE OF THE WEEK – A-

exes – Tate McRae – I guess jack Antonoff had the day off, this one has Ryan’s fingerprints on it after the success of he “greedy” excursion with the onerepublic also ran. This is a hidden christmas song – B-

Make You Mine This Season (Happiest Season) – Acoustic Version – Tegan and Sara – delicate and sweet, Christmas bells inviting you with a remarkably pretty seasonal song, originally from the lesbian coming out Xmas party on Hulu a coupla years ago- B+

Mess It Up – Purple Disco Machine Remix – nothing much remix, cmon guys Mick all but invented the rock as disco with “Miss You”. I guess this is alright just not alright comparatively speaking – C+

Wall Of Eyes – The Smile – as part time jobs go Thom spends a lot of his life with these guys but while they aren’t Radiohead (more analog for one thing) Thom retains his reptilian star glazed beauty on the mood music track – C+

Still Got It – Live from Spotify Green Screen – Troye Sivan – a highlight of the excellent new album, this is a truly gorgeous take with Sivan still dealing with heartache as he gets fucked a whole lot – A-
