Going Steady: New Singles 10-11-22 – 11-17-22 Reviewed

Young & Famous – 3D Friends, Lil Uzi Vert -dance beats, electronics and help from a huge rapper – B

The Ending – BROCKHAMPTON – a big (though short!) production as Kevin remembers moving to L.A. where his daddy paid his phone bill and he secreted boys out of his room after sucking dick all sunday morning, and the hook is fantastic – B+

6am – Channel Tres – nice ;little dance track with a thumping beat and great and strange horns – B

Men On The Moon – Chelsea Cutler – indie, acoustic confessional snooze – C-

I’m A Ram – Chris Stapleton – pretty darn good Al Green cover – B+

Queen Bitch – Demo – David Bowie – another trans gets nailed by a sneering Bowie, not as good as the original at all – C+

Guinnevere – Live at the Capitol Theatre – David Crosby, Becca Stevens, Michael League, Michelle Willis -from 2018 through 2016 was Crosby’s great post addiction year – B+

1 On 3 (feat. Rvssian) – Fivio Foreign – a violent, no nonsense New York track but no Pop Smoke – B

Last Christmas – Future Islands – the Wham cover, you know that dreaded track though the synths are pretty – C

Wish I Was You – Gina Birch – Gina is free to do what she wants but the Raincoats were such a unique sound, why not use that instead of hard rock? – C-

No Love – Gina Birch – much better post-punk with a Jah Wobble-y bass throughout – B+

Move Rework (with Kojey Radical) – Kae Tempest – spoken word-rap star Kae Tempest, on one of his most musical tracks with an addictive rhythm clicking and a fine other rapper in Kojey Radical plus hook: I’LL FIGHT YOU TILL I WIN – B+

If Jesus Was A Rockstar – Kim Petras -produced by Max Martin, proof that Kim has broken through a minority transgender cult to the mainstream after her Sam Smith duet “Unholy” got to # 1, the pleasantly sacrilegious “If Jesus Was A Rock Star” is very good in its own pop mainstream mode – B

Just Wanna Rock – Lil Uzi Vert – it (pronouns they/them) is one of the most popular live performance I have seen in a decade, and it is clear why since the extremely out there rapper never loses the point of his thread and nothing he adds (the ringing bells at the end of the truck for instance) only adds to its lustre – A-

The Perfect Kiss – Writing Session Recording – New Order – instrumental – C+

Too Many People – Mono / 2022 Remaster – Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney – I am sure Sir Paul has a reason why he is releasing a box set of seven inchers (“The 7″ Singles contains 80 vinyl seven-inch singles, starting with 1970’s ‘Another Day’ and working through the decades to ‘Women and Wives’ from 2020’s McCartney III. There are 65 recreations of singles/promos using restored artwork from 11 different countries. Additionally 15 singles are included that have never before been issued on seven-inch. These are mostly digital-only releases or songs that were for other reasons not issued on seven-inch.” But why? This is a great song we’ve heard many times – A

Uncle Albert / Admiral Halsey – Mono / 2022 Remaster – Paul McCartney, Linda McCartney, New York Philharmonic – I never realized it was New York Philharmonic doing the orchestration on thius slice of butter pie – D+

Work to Do – Live – Ringo Starr – Hamish Stuart handles the vocals on this old Average White Band track co-composed by Al Green – B

Break My Heart – Rudimental – just in time for their tenth anniversary, the London dance band with a generic dance song – C

Firebabe – Stormzy – not your Mama’s Stormzy, this ballad sucks and I don’t know why – MUST TO AVOID – D

Anti-Hero (feat. Bleachers) – Taylor Swift – Jack Antonoff adds a verse – B

Atura o Baile (The World Is Yours To Take) – Funk Remix / Budweiser Anthem Of The FIFA World Cup 2022 – Tears For Fears, L7NNON, Lil Baby, Mano Brown, Papatinho – just in time for the World Championship on Saturday, a kitchen sink everyone from Tears to Baby – B

Blank Page – The War and Treaty – a Civil War wannabe and quite credible on their country Americana – B

messy in heaven – goddard.venbee – ”I heard Jesus did cocaine on a night out, eyes wide open, dilated, but he’s fine now, and if his father ever finds out he’d probably knock his lights out….gets a little messy in heaven”, clever indie rock pop confessional – B+
