Even Elvis Costello Realizes His First Decade Was The Keeper

22 (3)

In the current issue of Rolling Stone, Elvis Costello was asked to choose his life in 10 songs. Of the ten songs, seven of them were from 1975 to 1986, and the other two  from 1987 – 2015. This is pretty strange from a man so obsessed with being contemporary. A man whose last album was written with the Roots. What gives?

One of two things come to mind.

Either

1 – He cares as much about his newer stuff as we do

or

2 – He did all his living earlier in his life.

While no one doubts that 1975 to 1986 must have been pretty mind blowing, a, quite literal rock and roll superstar, comparable to an English Dylan, and no one doubts he was a complete dickhead to boot, as Creem Editor Bill Holdship recently put it, “nobody believed his press clippings more than Costello”, still he did a number of things in the following 30 years. The only problem is, nobody wants to know about it. Instead, for the umpteenth time, he wants to tell us about “Radio Soul” -a song I first heard FORTY YEARS AGO.

Meanwhile, here is the tracklist for the yet another compilation album to his upcoming memoir.
