Times are hard for artists and musicians, everyone knows this, and times are even hard for those who have been in a famous and successful band. Eric Erlandson, founding member and guitarist of Hole, probably needs money because he is selling tons of Hole merchandize on eBay! This Facebook page, advertised Eric’s Merch and Memorabilia Store, lists many t-shirts, posters, vinyl and even cassettes that he is selling, and obviously, the merchandize isn’t cheap. Would you buy a Hole vintage t-shirt for $300, $400 even $1,000? A Nirvana ‘Big-Cheese Love-Buzz’ 7” for $3,000?
What’s going on Eric Erlandson? The Hole royalties do not pay enough anymore or does he even receive Hole royalties? His Twitter feed is filled with these sales, ‘I’ve put together two new lots of goodies for sale on eBay. This is my own kind of Kickstarter/Kickbutter.
‘Celebrity Skin’, Hole’s most commercially successful album sold over 1,400,000 copies in the US alone, but of course I have no idea how much he still benefits from the band’s sales. since things have been really tense and unpredictable between him and Courtney Love. In 2009 she reminded him how much Hole was hers, and only hers, as she tweeted a few more or less coherent things like: ‘uh i just hear that a former guitar player is saying i cant use my name for MY band, hes out of his MIND, he may want to check the trademark’… ‘ Hole is MY Band MY name and MY Tradmark he also might want to check his TAXES versus my redone Taxes on a bogus ssn, and talk to @PerezHilton’s’
Of course since this time, there must have been a few reconciliations, fall out episodes and feuds, but there always are rumors of Hole reunion. How many times did Love tease us with a reunion? According to Pitchfork, Love rehearsed new materials with her female ex-bandmates in 2014, and posted a picture last May, but a photo on Instagram doesn’t always give you the whole picture.
All these Hole items on eBay look bizarre to me, it almost looks like some desperate measures, and knowing Courtney Love’s huge appetite for money, control and power, Erlandson may not see much of Hole’s profit. Now, he has to be careful, if Love sees these sales, she may want to ask him for some money back.
