Eric Burdon & The Animals And Warpaint To Play At Twilight Concert Series

Warpaint in 2012 at the FYF fest

Every year, I am impatiently waiting for the announcement of the free summer concert series, and today, the line-up of the most popular of them was revealed. I am talking about the always successful Twilight Concert Series at Santa Monica Pier, Southern California’s largest free concert series, which, I hope, will last forever, despite some rumors it may have been cancelled because of the high cost for security: The City of Santa Monica reportedly spent nearly $1 million on public safety and security in 2016!

Never mind, the series is back for its 33rd year, with an interesting line-up:

It kicks off June 22nd with a Neo-soul/ R&B evening featuring Khalid and Bibi Bourelly, and will continue each Thursday night all summer-long: June 29th features an Indie Pop night with Lemaitre and Coast Modern, July 13th is Reggae night with Marcia Griffiths and Jah9, July 20th will be a not-to-be-missed rock night featuring Eric Burdon & The Animals and Mr. Elevator, July 27th is an Aussie night featuring Miami Horror and Cleopold, August 3rd will be the Americana night of the season featuring the charming Valerie June and Irma Thomas, August 10th is a Latin night with Mon Laferte and Buscabulla, and finally August 17th will be an alt-Indie Rock night with Warpaint and another performer to be announced.

As usual, the premier free concert series throughout the U.S., whose media partners include KCRW, offers a true musical exploration throughout genres. Beside Valerie June, an Auerbach-produced female Dylan, evoking Billie Holiday and Dolly Parton at the same time, Miami Horror, which regurgitate a heavy diet of 80-90’s-inspired music into explosive house-beat dance bombasts, and Warpaint, an all-female psychedelic pop act which used to play melancholic guitar behind aching vocal harmonies, I haven’t seen any of the other acts. Obviously, Eric Burdon & The Animals will be one of the highlights of the season, although there will be many other choices, and the problem will be to decide what to see!
