This is official and it didn’t take very long: Eagles of Death Metal will be back very soon in Paris! They will be joining U2 on stage for their final song at AccordHotels Arena on Sunday December 6th or on Monday December 7th.
U2 had canceled their November shows following the terrorist attacks and they have now rescheduled their performance, which will be filmed as ‘U2: Innocence + experience Live in Paris’ and broadcasted on HBO on December 7th at 9 pm. It is unclear which one of the two nights EODM will choose to join U2 on stage (what about both nights?) but one thing is certain, Josh Homme will be there too whereas he was not following the band during their European tour.
Who got the idea? Bono of course! Now I don’t want to sound cynical and I am sure the Palm Desert band was able to make their own decision, however Bono is always there for a reclamation of a tragedy with a humanist cover. Even when he may seem sincere – and who could not feel sincerely affected by such an event? – Bono has to play the savior, the good Samaritan, and make everyone know about it.
Speaking with the NY Times he explained he basically went out of his way to help the members of EODM, offering them their private plane, buying them new phones because their own phones had been left in the venue. Sure that’s nice Bono, but why does he drool about it all over the press… He once paid $1,500 to fly his forgotten hat first class, so what’s the big deal? Then he bought a few new iPhones, he did what he was supposed to do, but did the phones come with his last U2 album already downloaded? I know, I tease Bono…
It’s not exactly clear why U2 cancelled their shows which were originally scheduled for November 14th and 15th, but Bono insists, they are not afraid: ‘ISIS and these kinds of extremists are a death cult. We’re a life cult. Rock ’n’ roll is a life force, and it’s joy as an act of defiance. That’s what U2 is.’
May be real defiance would have been to play in Paris the day following the attack? In any case, you have it, less than a month after the horrific terrorist attack, EODM will be back on stage, with U2, it’s gonna be very emotional, Bono is gonna cry, he will kiss and hug Jesse Hughes a dozen times. Bono, always ready for a good photo op, right? May be the iPhones were enough to show he cared, why dragging them on stage?
Anyhow, Billboard also reports that EODM will resume their European tour in February 2016.
