Coachella Announces Its 2019 Lineup

Coachella 2019

This year, Coachella didn’t waste any time to announce its 2019 lineup, which seems to be a much more diverse one than the Hip Hop/R&B-oriented lineup of 2018.

Childish Gambino, Tame Impala, and Ariana Grande are the three headliners, whereas Janelle Monae, Solange, Kid Cudi, Weezer, Aphex Twin, Billie Eilish, the 1975, Pusha-T, Blood Orange, Diplo, Kacey Musgraves, Rosalía, SOPHIE, Mac DeMarco, Idris Elba, Jon Hopkins, Kaytranada, Anderson .Paak, Juice WRLD, Playboi Carti, Let’s Eat Grandma, Bad Bunny, Sheck Wes, Gesaffelstein, Chvrches, J Balvin, 070 Shake, and many more are also part of the lineup.

There is a bit of everything for everybody, hip-hop and electronics are obviously well represented but it is mostly very pop-oriented. There is also a good representation of the indie scene, with artists I usually see in my neighborhood, or at smaller-scale festivals. Tame Impala were actually headlining Desert Daze last year, and Mac DeMarco, Ty Segall & White Fence, Beach Fossils, The Frights, the Interrupters…are familiar acts of the defunct FYF fest or Beach Goth. That said, there are tons of acts I have never heard of, like Blackpink, the first K-pop girl band to perform at Coachella.

On a side note, Kanye West was rumored to perform but he passed on headlining the festival, because, in a typical Kanye attitude, he was not happy with the stage size, which he found to be ‘artistically limiting’: ‘These 40×60 stages are so archaic. It’s the same type of stage on which Shakespeare’s works were performed hundreds of years ago’. He was replaced by Childish Gambino, who has no problems with the stage.

Coachella Valley Music and Art Festival will return to the Empire Polo Club in Indio, CA for two weekends set for April 12th – 14th and April 19th – 21st.

Passes for Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival go on sale Friday, January 4 at 11 AM PT at coachella.com, while supplies last. All taxes, shipping and fees are included in listed pass prices.
