ChatGPT: Rock Critic

Being a cultural FOMO pro it didn’t take me long to check out the new artificial intelligence platform and see if I was gonna be out of a job as a rock critic . So I inquired after rocknyc.live, not unlike googling yourself and then started exploring.

Q: What is rocknyc.live?

AI A: “Rocknyc.live is a website that covers a wide range of music, with a particular focus on rock and alternative music. The site features reviews of new albums, interviews with musicians, and news and commentary about the music industry. In addition to covering music, the site also features articles on topics like film, art, and politics.

The site was founded by music journalist Iman Lababedi, who has written for a number of music publications over the years. The site’s mission is to provide a platform for independent voices in music journalism, and to promote up-and-coming artists who may not receive as much attention from mainstream media outlets.

Overall, rocknyc.live is a useful resource for anyone who is interested in discovering new music, reading insightful commentary about the music industry, or staying up-to-date on the latest news and trends in popular culture”

Q: Who Killed Elliot Smith?

A.I. A: “Elliot Smith, the American singer-songwriter, died on October 21, 2003, from two stab wounds to the chest. His death was initially ruled as a suicide, but some fans and acquaintances have speculated that he may have been murdered.

However, there is no conclusive evidence to suggest that anyone else was involved in Elliot Smith’s death, and the Los Angeles Police Department’s investigation concluded that his death was self-inflicted. The case remains closed, and the official cause of Elliot Smith’s death is suicide.”

Q: who was the first pop music star?

A: “The term “pop music” is relatively modern, and there is no single artist who can be definitively labeled as the first pop music star. However, there were certainly popular musicians and performers throughout history who were influential in shaping the development of popular music as we know it today.

One of the earliest popular music stars was likely Franz Liszt, a Hungarian composer and pianist”

Q: Who is better: George Gershwin or Cole Porter

A.I. A: “Both George Gershwin and Cole Porter were brilliant composers of the early 20th century, and their music continues to be celebrated and performed today. It’s difficult to compare them and determine who is “better” as they had different styles and approaches to music.

George Gershwin was known for his jazz and blues-infused compositions, such as “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American in Paris,” which combined classical music with popular music of the time. He also wrote many popular songs, including “I Got Rhythm” and “Summertime,” which have become standards in the Great American Songbook.

Cole Porter, on the other hand, was known for his sophisticated and witty lyrics, as well as his memorable melodies. Some of his most famous songs include “I’ve Got You Under My Skin,” “Night and Day,” and “Anything Goes.” His music often incorporated elements of jazz and Latin rhythms, and his lyrics were clever and often risqué.

Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference as to which composer is better. Both Gershwin and Porter made significant contributions to American music, and their work continues to be celebrated and performed by musicians and audiences around the world.”

Q: What Was the biggest loss in pop music history

A.I. A: “The biggest loss in pop music history is a matter of subjective opinion, as there have been many notable losses of talented musicians throughout history. Some examples include:

John Lennon: The former member of The Beatles was shot and killed outside his New York City apartment in 1980, leaving behind a legacy of influential music.

Michael Jackson: The “King of Pop” died in 2009 from a cardiac arrest, leaving behind a career that spanned decades and influenced many other artists.

Whitney Houston: The singer passed away in 2012 from accidental drowning, leaving behind a legacy of powerful vocals and hit songs.

Prince: The singer and musician passed away in 2016 from an accidental drug overdose, leaving behind a career that included hits like “Purple Rain” and “Kiss.”

These are just a few examples of the many losses that have impacted the world of pop music.”

Q: Do you miss Nick Drake?

A.I. A: “As an AI language model, I do not have emotions, feelings or personal experiences, so I do not have the ability to miss anything or anyone, including Nick Drake. However, I am aware of Nick Drake’s legacy as a singer-songwriter and his impact on the music industry, and I can provide information or answer questions related to his life and music.”

Q: “What is the meaning of Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman”?

A.I. A: “Donovan’s “Sunshine Superman” is a song that was released in 1966. It is a psychedelic rock song that was influenced by the emerging counterculture of the time.

The meaning of the song is somewhat open to interpretation, but it is generally thought to be a celebration of freedom, experimentation, and living life to the fullest. The “Sunshine Superman” of the title is a mythical figure who represents the pursuit of happiness and the rejection of societal norms and conventions.

The lyrics are filled with vivid and colorful imagery, including references to magical gardens, golden apples, and multi-colored fairy tales. The song suggests that by embracing our innermost desires and following our own paths, we can achieve a state of transcendence and joy that is beyond the reach of ordinary life.

In many ways, “Sunshine Superman” is a product of its time, reflecting the hippie ideals and the sense of possibility that characterized the mid-1960s. However, it also has a timeless quality that continues to inspire and uplift listeners today.”

Q: And finally, a question that rocknyc readers never tire of asking: IS BONO GAY

A.I. A: “There is no credible evidence to suggest that Bono, the lead singer of the band U2, is gay. Bono has been married to his wife Ali Hewson since 1982 and they have four children together. However, it’s important to note that a person’s sexual orientation is their own private matter and should be respected regardless of their public persona or status.”
